A game to play

It’s good to see that you forgot all about BF while with your niece and nephews. That’s the way it should be!

Family first.
It was a beautiful day, 60° and sunny. Took everyone for a ride in my new car.

I'd been hunting for a specific car in the top spec trim, and they are very difficult to find. Been on the hunt for 3 weeks, had two sold out from under me. Everyone here in Chicagoland had a $5000+ matket adjustment over msrp. I had a reservation to see and buy one, showed up an hour early, they sold it. Another a different dealer sold while I was negotiating price on it. Basically it was a bidding war. Many of these were presold while in transit.

I'd had several offers on my own car, and though I liked several colors on the new one, my preferred was dark blue with gray leather. Every day I looked online for the car.

1:30 pm Friday I found one in Michigan and it just happened to be my preferred color combo.

Left work at 2, went home and packed, went to a dealer at 3, sold my car. Got a ride from my mom back to our office, booked a hotel and train to Grand Rapids Michigan.

Took the 4:40 train to Chicago (arrived at 5:45), walked several blocks to the other train station. Caught the 6:30 amtrak to GR. Arrived at 11:30. Uber to the hotel.

Dealer picks me up 10am, drives me 40 miles to thedealership in Muskegon. Paperwork was all ready, I signed, wrote my check, and was on the road at 1:30. 4 hour drive home. Started pouring rain at 2, and would continue the entire drive.

I'm exhausted. It was worth it to get the car I wanted and not get gouged on price. I negotiated the price over the phone, and surprise, when I got there they miscalculated and it ended up being $350 cheaper.

So, tomorrow I will do "a knife with a new car" pics. The daytime running lights are in the shape of knife blades!

Right on! Looking forward to seeing the photos tomorrow. 😎

Knife blade drls, pic courtesy of my mother. Hyundai Tucson hybrid limited AWD. 226hp from a 1.6l turbo 4 and rlectric motor. In sport mode it will do 0-60 in less than 7 seconds which is pretty impressive for an suv, especially hybrid.

The vehicle market is nuts right now, I had to drive to Iowa to pick up my 2021 tundra trd pro. I called over 50 dealers in like 10 states and the mark ups were anywhere from 5k to 25,000 dollars over msrp. I finally found one in Iowa for close to msrp. Congrats on getting what you were looking for!

Here's my "knife with a new car" and a few more pics

Congrats on your special Tucson ! I don’t think right now there is a technology for money ratio, someone can beat Hyundai. I’m on my second Santa Fe, this one is Calligraphy edition and I’m very happy with it.Previous was Limited, long base, great suv. I had also G80 for 3 years, I thing they will be the new Lexus pretty soon.

I concur. I had been driving a 2011 Kia Sorento SX with all the bells and whistles, dual sunroof, bluetooth nav, etc. 73,000 miles, and was just starting to need repairs, suspension mostly. Northern Illinois/Chicago area roads are hell on suspension. I also (while married) had a 2012 Kia Forte which with 120k has had no issues. I sold it to my cousin after my divorce. Kia and Hyundai are fantastic IMO.

There are a few things about this new car that I'm not thrilled about though. The cup holders aren't big enough for the larger gatorade bottles or my hydroflask, no cd player, and it beeps when backing up ala Prius. The 8 speaker Bose system is nice, but I think my 10 speaker Infinity system in the Kia was better sound quality wise.

Its super quiet, and having blind spot cameras show up on the gauges when your turn signal is on is the bees knees. The semi-autonomous cruise control (steers around curves, if you start to wander in your lane it nudges back into center) is insane. EPA city mpg is 37, I'm getting 38 and it only has 350 miles on it. Highway I hear doesn't reach the EPA 35 until about 4000 miles, as the engine needs to break in. I will be keeping it out of sport mode until the engine is broken in, then, no promises. I may drive like a bat out of hell again. But 38mpg certainly beats the 18 I was getting in the Sorento.

I have 2 pepper grinders at home, but I won't be home until 10 or maybe later.

We've been trying to find a Crosstrek Sport for my wife since October. We've decided to just wait for the updated 2023 model this fall unless the markups and BS come to an end in a hurry.
The one I was negotiating on was here in Palatine (rupe knows where I am) and the msrp for the Tucson Hybrid limited is $39,900. Palatine Hyundai wanted $48,500. I negotiated them down $5k, but one of their other sales people was negotiating on the same car, and I ended up losing out in a bidding war lol. Funny thing was, I ended up paying $41,500 for mine. They felt so bad about the markup the sales manager snuck some Tucson floor mats in while the boss wasn't looking. Really cool people, sales manager is into shooting like me, and comes to Chicago frequently. We exchanged contact info and if he comes out this way he wants to go shooting. Lol, it was quite the experience.

My wife has a 2019 Subaru crosstrek limited, her lease just ended and we had a set price agreed upon for the buyout when we got it in 2019. 18,500.

The Kelley bluebook of it is 30k. So it was a no brainer to keep it. The car market is crazy right now, her vehicle basically depreciated like 2k over 3 years.

My dad's 2017 F-150 Supercrew XLT is now worth MORE than what he paid for it. Insane. We plan to sell it in August, but with midterms, used car prices will probably have started to go down.

It was interesting, its been 10.5 years since I purchased a vehicle "new." Paying cash no longer means anything. The dealer would much rather you finance it. The banks must really have good kickbacks to the dealers.

They’d much rather have you finance if it’s new and pay cash if it’s used.
