A gathering of Khukurati

In Hawthorne, Nevada, Uncle. See?

Mohd, we use VHS video players over here. I'm not sure if you use that format in Malaysia or if it can be dubbed onto hard disc and then written to CD/DVD. Jim March might know about that. We'll find a way to preserve it unless it gets too incriminating. ( If it comes to that, Yvsa or I can stash it on some Rez where it'd take a federal warrant to go after it. I've ducked out of a couple of state subpoenas that way. The Tribal cops have a really fun time with guys trying to serve those orders. Dumb Indins don't know nothin' ... hehehe. )

I DID NOT say that you're an unfit mother.
The court already ruled on that matter. See this order?

Uncle Bill, you're right about the problem of deciding on a specific commemorative khuk. I know that several of the guys have already spoken in favor of something small, in the neighborhood of 12" but, personally, I would rather something larger, something between 16" and 18". However, I would certainly go along with the majority and buy one of whatever is finally agreed upon.

What about a miniature -- say 4 or 5 inches with appropriate engraving. "HI Khukuri gathering -- 2000" or something like that. We could get this done for $25. The 12 inch Dhankuta with engraving would be close to $100. A 17 inch kothimoda with engraving -- $450.

Khukuri FAQ

Hi All,
This is going to be a friendly gathering, and I think Bill is right..... Something small and inexpensive, so that EVERYONE there can afford a copy. And yes I can go to the top dollar blade myself, but maybe not some and it would be a shame if they couldn't have a momento as well.
Dan

I agree about small and affordable for the commemorative.

I'm sure Bill will have plenty of other items on hand for those needing their normal khukuri hit.

John, maybe that's the way to go. A small khukuri for $25 that everybody can afford. If some want a kothimoda or some type "high dollar" khukuri we'll do that, too.

I hope to be at the gathering.--- John could be right about the group rate for hotel rooms. We used to do that with the karate team. Have to starting saving now to be there. Love to meet everyone!

Unfortunately I have school starting next week but that $25 kukri has my attention especially it it's small.

Bill, how about a special crossed kukri collar for Mr. Powell's cat?

Uncle Bill,
I think you might have to stock up on your inventory before the Khukuri gathering. I think everyone might get the itch to buy something in addition to the Convention Khukuri. Imagine if someone wins some money on the slots or card tables!

Unfortunately, Reno also has banks, ATM's 24 hours a day, and ways to get cash from your credit cards.

Bill has always been careful around me to just lay out one or two khuks at a time. If all of us were all to lay out all the khuks we brought in a display in one place, at one time, I would fear for the sanity of more than a few forumites.

Ma'am, I DID NOT call you an unfit mother.
The judge did that in this court order.

So I did some thinking( surprise, surprise!) and this is what I came up with.

Low end model: 6" similar to the kagas katne with a sheath that has an additional loop of leather at the point. With a leather cord to be worn as a neck knife.

High end: 12" dhankuta style

Both would have horn handles. Full tang? Engraved on the blade would be " Khukurati Konvention" On the the other side "2000"

We meet every year, here on after, and change the style of khuk on the high end every year.

What do you guys think?

- D

Nice thinking, Daniel. There are a few who will want a very high end khukuri -- something on the order of the kothimoda so maybe two choices besides the small "for everybody" khukuri would be better.

Keep playing with this and we'll get it right. I'll have to have all orders in place in May if we want them in August.
