A "gentleman's" fixed blade?

I really like having a smallish fixed blade for EDC. Most frequent right now is a BK24, which might be a little bigger than you have in mind. They are just so handy for so many knife chores.

A Burt Foster small Darkside is very low profile. I have a small paring knife coming from Jeff Ware with a gaucho style sheath.

I would try to keep my open for a Jagdnicker - there are several cutleries that make this great pattern like Linder, Hubertus Hartkopf etc.

A great traditional german pattern from a time long long gone... :)

Bark River has produced a number of small fixeds: Pro Scalpel, PSK, Blackwater Bootknife amongst many others, worth considering.

I have been carrying a small fixed blade as a user for many years now. Biggest we can carry concealed here is 3" blade.

I started with the Benchmade 210 , then switched to a Rinaldi Matrix , and for the past 4 years I switch back and forth between a couple fixed blades I made for myself.

Carry it horizontal to the left of the belt buckle. I find it much easier to draw the little guy from his kydex sheath , use and resheath than to open a folder.

Hides in plain sight and stays out of the way until needed.

(( I do carry a John Lloyd slippie in my coin pocket , as well as two other folders in my mission wallet , but my small fixed blade is my go to workhorse )).

Appreciate all the responses.

I certainly don't need a fixed blade. But then again, I don't need another folder either. I've got enough steel in this house to last my lifetime and then some.

I suspect that I would not wear a fixed blade to the grocery store. I was thinking more for when I do yard work, and if a neighbor happens to stop by - I'd like the strength of a fixed blade, but not have to be concerned that I'm scaring the neighbor.

A number of the photos here are exactly what I was thinking of. And the bird and trout knives I've seen fit into what I was thinking. Small enough, but robust enough to do a bit harder work in the yard.

Thanks guys, you are too kind. The first that come to mind and are affordable would be a Hunt( Paul has a nice one) or Childress which has been mentioned. For a little more, Sean O'Hare makes a Sparrow or Little Bear that might fit the bill. Good luck, I prefer a fixed blade over a folder. I very rarely carry a modern folder anymore because I carry a fixed blade, and a slipjoint or lockback in my pocket.

Don't have much to add other than I like a good BHK, but thanks for showing the Moki Banff. That looks like a real winner.

If you are not leaving your property with it, get whatever size knife pleases you. Hell, it's your own yard isn't it? Sounds like your neighbor is scaring YOU.

Muela of Spain makes one called the "Colibri."
6-1/4" overall, sub-3" blade, various high-end handle materials.
Mine is in stag, and I love it (sorry, no pix yet). But they're not so easy to find!

Anza makes some nice looking, competitively priced, fixed blades. This one is long gone, I sold it to a friend on a whim. I think it was a PK-1 or 2.

Wot, no pics?! :D

Nice

Very nicely made custom knives. To the OP; you could do far worse than a Buck 102 - small, well made, handy, inexpensive, and readily available. OH

Bark River Knife and Tool has a ton of small fixed blade knives that are not 'scary' looking. Also that Dan Koster Scout is an awesome looking little knife.

Here are pics of the Muela Colibri:

And I picked these two BRKT's up this weekend (Bumble Bee and Imp):

A Jagdnicker made from several Solingen cutleries could fit your needs

Here are two of mine

Hubertus (with a stag roll)

Friedrich Hartkopf with half-integral construction (and stag of course)

Maybe you like the design.
