A German knifemaker wants to introduce himself...

Outstanding work (especially design elements). I read the article in The Finer Edge and was surprised that Steffen didn't come out of some serious design environment. I'm with ipm as far as possible Bauhaus influence...

Sehr schön, Steffen...

Very beautiful work.... 1.2 MILLION layers? How many layers in the starting billet?

I figure 36 layers folded 15 times would at least get you to 1.17 million layers.

Great looking knives and welcome.

I must be a geek 'cause I just did the math as well. Ends up being 15 folds like you said not counting the first 36 layer as the base.

Incredible styles, materials and top shelf craftsmanship. That "firecracker" mosaic is amazing!

I hope to see a lot more of your work.

Thanks for posting it.

Many thanks for the friendly greeting in the forum and the numerous
suggestions to my works.

I do not speak well English, that's why a friend translates my texts.
Today i try to come to an agreement once without help.

I live with my wife Kathi and my hound Hardy in the south of Germany,
in a small village close to Nuremberg. The scenery has many lakes,
rivers and small mountains.

In my spare time i go hunting, fishing and sailing. I like literature,
cigars, wine and am an eager hunter in the South Africa.

I have practiced some professions, before i make for 6 years of knife.
I was a metalworker, car shop assistant, bouncer, have worked on the
parliament and as a professional hunter and had a Caribbean bar.

My knives are like me, a little square and uncompromisingly. I come
from Dessau, in this town Walter Gropius lived and worked. My works
are strongly influenced by his design.

I love contrasts in the material and the surfaces, brightly and
darkly, weakly and polished. Everything must be a unity and recur in
the knife.

I hope, now you could get to know me a little and you are interested
in my works. I try to answer your questions well and will soon show
some works.

Very interesting background, Steffen, and knives with a new
and original look.

Hope to see you at a knife show someday!

All the best,
David Darom (ddd)

Sounds like you bring a rich and diverse life experience to your knifemaking. That's a good thing. And you did very well getting your thoughts across without any help.

Steffen asked me to show some more of his work, so I will do :)

This folder is called "Little John"
The 78mm long and 3mm wide blade is made out of Damastell "Odin's Eye". Liner and bolster are made from titanium, the pin is bronce. The scales are elephant ivory:

And the show goes on....

This folder is called "back to the roots"
Here Steffen did not use any high-tech lock mechanism but reduced the folder to an aboriginal, essential and functional knife.
Modern materials, used since hundreds of years, simplicity but elegance - a knife for just every day and every occasion.
Steffen had a lot of fun producing this basic and traditional knive and he hopes you also like it.
Here are the details:
The 70mm long blade is San Mai forged by J.P. Stienen with torded explosions, the spacer is also San Mai.
The liners and screws are mede from titanium, the axle is bronce and the scales elephant ivory

Here comes a kitchen-sword.
The damasteel blade is 230mm long and 39mm high. Its width goes from 2.8mm down to 0.3mm
The handle is made from west african ebony with inside weights for better balance, the cramp is made from gold-bronce. The stand is again made from west african ebony.
