A gift to my groomsmen. Which Becker should I choose?

Hello,

I am considering purchasing 6 identical knives as gifts to my groomsmen for my upcoming wedding. The knife I have been looking at the most happens to be the BK11. I think it would be a universally appropriate gift for my groomsmen because most of them enjoy the outdoors in one way or another (i.e. hunting, camping, hiking). I guess what I'm trying to do is, get some feedback from the community that knows the most about these knives! I would love to hear of other options as well.

Great choice. It was what I was going to recommend.

I do love the BK14, but a gift for your groomsmen, the BK11 is perfect.

Well, I think that makes possibly the best choice. First off, you get a great knife for the money, and second, you get a great bottle opener, something any man should appreciate.

Holy crap, dude you rule. The last wedding I was in, I got a cheap flask and an equal bridesmaid.

Not knowing your groomsmen, I'd say get them each a BK9. I say this because:

1)Most of your average Joes don't want to EDC a fixed blade knife.
2)Unless your groomsmen do a lot of outdoor stuff they probably won't carry a mid sized blade a lot.
3)Following the logic of 1&2, any fixed blade they do carry will be a around the house/yard work knife. BK9 is perfect for this role.

Now, I'm assuming a lot about your groomsmen, so I could be dead wrong, but that's what I'd pick if I gifted a Becker to my buddies... if not a folder.

11 is a good idea, and seemingly appropriate for a wedding. The BK2 isn't all that much more money, and it's a heck of a knife. Maybe if you can swing $10-$15 more for each, that's a great all-around outdoors knife, but not an EDC sort of knife.

I say you go with bk11, bk14 but you would have to buy handles, so I would say one of these for sure bk15, bk16 or bk 17 they come with 2 sets of handles"black and coyote brown"

I have to agree with Moose. The 11 is perfect for any occasion. If micarta is too pricey maybe you'll want to wrap em with paracord. Cheap yet classy without being cheesy.
I think I just found my new mantra!:D

11 or 14 is what i would go with as well. very cool. congrats and my condolences on the wedding :)

BK 5. The pictures would be legendary.....and they would see lots of kitchen use.

I gotta agree with Critikill, go for the 9... King of beasts...and make it memorable for pictures, after you and your lovely bride do the sweet wedding cake thing, you and all your boys take a swak at it with the 9!

Just sayin'... :D

Sweeeeet white handled BK-5!

Back to the OP. My first thought was BK-14, maybe with Zytel scales. But if your groomsmen are big beer drinkers, then the BK-11, with micarta scales if you can afford them, and a sixpack of your favorite microbrew. Don't forget to give them a written invitation to this forum, so they realize the customizing possibilities of their knife. If you can afford the BK-11s or BK-14s, but not the extra scales, maybe get a few hanks of different colored paracord, and compile some links to cordwrap examples, on this forum and youtube.

I am very appreciative of all the comments. I believe I will go with the bk11 but... I might just get the bk9 just for the cake cutting ceremony. What do you think? :D You all seem like a really great bunch!

I'm probably going to go with the different colored paracord option over the micarta or zytel scales just to keep the cost down. I will, however, inform them of the many custom possibilities there are with the becker knives. I'll be sure to tell them about this forum!

Really great idea. That's one of the most thoughtful gift ideas I've heard of. Your boys will love their gifts!
