Hi Folks, Im going to try and not rave on here too much, as I have been totally wrapped up in the traditional knife world...I just cant see myself ever wanting to get out of it..everyone here contributes so well to keep up this fantastic home away from home...so I will endeavor to chip in a bit.
Ok...a while ago I bought a Case Trapper, a lovely knife, jigged bone-CV blades ...BUT I did the most stupid thing...I was cutting up an orange...had the knife on the board in the kitchen, and there was first a knock on the door-my friend turned up-we are at the back-I then get into gardening...come inside and here is my knife that has orange juice blasting into it for about 6 hours....it most certainly patina'd the blade-I wasnt out to do this...but it now has it.....
So..the clip has heavy patterend patina on it-everything else is like new...its still a great knife....here it is when I got it..sorry, I havent had the time for new photo's...
To be in the draw...a photo of a good group shot of some or all of your knives...c'mom and give us some eye candy will ya!
myknives025-1.jpg

To be in the draw for this next knife...I would like you to post a photo of your favourite old knife-that YOU have in your collection.
This next giveaway I have thought VERY hard about, and it means a great deal to me...so much so, I want others to follow...please hear me out.
A while ago Dennis Strickland left the forums...I miss this guy very much, to me...He was a great guy, he gifted me this knife, I have sharpened it carefully, and want this to be gifted on the grounds that the new owner keeps this knife for a year...marks it on the calender and repeats this process - as in offer it out to a new owner for the next year...and ask that this be repeated ....words wont describe what I will feel if this is not upheld...so if you feel you can do this?...please go for it...I really want a Traditional forum member who has a good number of posts in here to take this on...the reason?...I want others to enjoy - and look after this knife, and pass on the enjoyment to another great member here...what do you think of this idea?
The blade carries patina now-naturally so, very tidy sharpening....and is in fantastic condition...this is a Toothpick, and Dennis's name should be mentioned in the next give away..here it is..( its the top knife in this photo - the other stays with me forever )
Please guys, ... it would be great if true intentions of carrying this knife for a year and repeating this process.
myknives023.jpg

My next knife I want to giveaway is this really nice little Boker, Im not too sure of the age of this, but I would guess 50's quite possibly earlier...Carbon blades..lovely swedge on the main blade - neat jigging...I just cant quite work out if its bone or Composite-either way..its that nice...it is very hard to tell!!Its had a few knocks...but wears it well. The main blade still has a nice snap-pen blade has it-but a quiet one.
Main blade has sharpening over its years of existance, but has lots of life left in it! I sharpened it-its a tidy job, but I need to upskill my stropping before it becomes a shaver...but its sharp.... to be in the draw for this...just tell me who-or what inspires you in this wonderful place here of Traditionals.
Guys...thank you for everything you do...for me, and for knife collecting.
Duncan

Hey Duncan. Thank you for the giveaway. I'd like to enter the contest for the Case trapper. I don't know Dennis so someone else may be better suited to receive the toothpick. But if I'm deemed a suitable recipient for it, I would be happy to be the temporary custodian of the knife and pass it on to another in a perpetual giveaway.

I sold/traded a bunch, my 2010 forum knife and Queen/Burke barlow are both visiting the Don Seals knife spa and one of my Case Swaybacks is taking a tour of Wilfred Works with Kerry Hampton but here are some of mine that weren't hiding in tool boxes, tackle boxes, coat pockets, and couch cushions.

And here are some older group shots that I've previously posted:

My favorite old knife of the bunch (excluding the tool knives) is this old Surveyor pattern from Maher & Grosh.

Those who inspire me here on the traditional forum are many of the custom knife makers and collectors of old knives who actively contribute to discussion.

I'm not a collect by pattern guy, but I really enjoy Case's Mini Trapper, reminds me of a good time in a squirrel hollow.

Duncan it would take me at least a full day to get out and lay out a display of all the knives this hopeless addict has. Then i'd need to hire a heicopter to get high enough to take the picture. I must stop buying knives ! (ever say that to yourself ? maybe daily ? a few times a day ??)
Re Strickland knife, can it be carried and used during the year, or just kept as is ?

I'm wanting to be in for these give aways. I'll drop in some pictures of some of my trappers to comply with the requirements for the trapper. I would be happy to keep and use the GEC toothpick that Dennis gave you. And I have really gone off the deep end with 2-blade jack knives of late and that Boker would be perfect. I'll drop a picture in here of those too. I don't have a toothpick, so can't take any pictures of any of them; it's a pattern I'm interested in trying!

Thanks so much for the give aways Duncan. You are indeed a kindred spirit. - Ed J

Guys..I apologize...the knife of Dennis's is to be used..most definitely, and just let me know what draw-if not all you would like to be placed in, cheers and good luck!

I'm not entering...been too lucky lately...but great GA, Duncan.

NOT an entry, Duncan! Absolutely great giveaway, but I am trying to thin the herd. Thanks for your generosity!!

Good on you Duncan!Hey Charlie,Those Schrade Serp.Jacks and Barlows (especially the tested era Case knives)are unbelievably beautiful.Short of a custom knife from a master i know of nothing that could compare to that quality.Maybe Case Bose? Thanks for posting.

Duncan, I'll take a shot at all three contests, if you please!

First up a couple pics of my GEC cases. Can you tell what my favorite pattern is?!?

For the Strickland toothpick, here is my old scout knife from the early '60s, not quite 50 years old, and still used nearly every day.

And for the Boker, I'd have to say the most inspirational thing about this Traditional forum is the willingness of the makers (Tony, Ken, Jerry, Ricky, Kerry and many others) to share their vast knowledge with us regular schmoes about the design mechanics of these things we admire so much. A toast to the makers!! (Insert the beverage of your choice.) :D

Thanks for the great fun, Duncan!

Not an entry, as I was the recipient of a recent giveaway here, but I just wanted to say this is a great gesture, and there are some great pics here already.

Put me in for the first give-away:

grouptraditionals.jpg

and for the 3rd giveaway

What inspires me about traditionals is :

that it is a way to keep older times alive , when things were simpler , common sense prevailed , you listened to your parents ( to a degree ). It takes me back to those times when I was allowed and trusted to use dads Barlow from the top center drawer on his biggest Snap-on tool box ( where it still resides to this day ). That knife was used for many things around his auto repair shop and it shows.

Just like dad , that Barlow never failed me . Traditionals have a feeling that is hard to explain. The feeling on opening , is like watching the sun come up , and the snap when closing reminds me of slipping in between the cool sheets at the end of the day.

Traditional knives create bonds , which is evident in this section of Bladeforums.
