Here's a group shot of most of my traditionals - except for the ones I hadn't yet acquired when the picture was taken, the one in my pocket, and the one on the table by my easy chair, and...

This is my favorite old knife, by the obscure Sheffield firm of Smith & Hall. Beautiful old ivory, fine detailing to the bolsters, and the blades aren't bad either.

It's hard to name one person in this group who inspires me - the spirit of so many like-minded fellow knife lovers is a genuine pleasure to behold and be a small part of.

Not my oldest knife in terms of years but it has logged more miles in the bush with the first owner than I likely ever will. This old knife has done some living.
What I love about the trad forum is the respect, generosity and the willingness to share life experiences in an constructive and entertaining way free from egos and one-upmanship found elsewhere on the interwebz. Jackknife in particular has had a big influence on me, but the trad forums is full of class-acts.
This giveaway being a perfect example.
Thank you for the chance to play along.

Duncan

Something I think Dennis would like: Yes it's a #66 Tidioute just like grampa would have used. The Jack is not for passaround but i would be proud to carry and use Mr. Strickland's toothpick and pass it on. I think he would approve of near any GEC and this is my only one. He did so much for the forum that it is only fitting to hand it off to others. Your gesture is quite fitting. Dennis has a good eye for great knives.

Why I like BF? Mainly for the education and like minded companionship. Just today I've ordered a Queen jack and a Case peanut AND dyed the scales of a Case Stockman and SBJ based souly on the comments, recomendations and excellent threads here. Trueth be told, I only recently dropped by BF to see if it was worth my while to renew my membership and your GA has proved to me why BF is the exception worth the price of admission. I must say, Good on you Sir, and thankyou for making BF worthwhile.

I didn't answer one of the questions.... oops.
Okay, when I joined BF I was just looking around and hoping to see some nice pics of some traditional pocket knives, well it didn't take long for me to find that. The I started reading posts and seeing the connection that the long time members had with each other, I wanted to share my knives as well so I started posting a little. Then I found Jackknife's stories, and wow, I think I was led hear for these. I really enjoyed pouring over his work and reading as much as I could. I read so many of them I lost track of what I really had read, then I started reading over them again... I loved them just as much. On a rainy day, I'll sit here by my computer with a couple knives and a stone, and just read away. Thanks for that Jackknife. It didn't take long for the generosity of the other members to reach me, I was blessed by winning a give away, Jamie sent me a great knife and a very useful P38, (I think thats what number it is). So I do enjoy visiting this great site and seeing, and sharing, the love for these traditional knives.

Hi, Duncan. Please consider this an entry only for the toothpick. And why the toothpick?? Frankly, every time I see one, I feel like I would not like its ergos in actual use. As such, I do not and have never had one in my collection, and I am reluctant to buy one without at least first having tried one out. That said, I am certainly willing to accommodate your request to "pass it on" in a year after given the opportunity to use it. I can't promise that it will be in my pocket every day, but I do promise to carry and use it a lot throughout the year if I should be so lucky to get it for that time.

As far as my favorite old traditional knife, that would be my Robeson pictured below. She was made sometime between 1917 and 1939 (IIRC) and has seen a lot of use. She is "all work and no pretention" :) and sharpens up as nicely as any knife I have. She was also my first old traditional knife, and so holds a special place in my heart for that reason as well.

Anyway, that's enough yappin' from me. Thanks for the opportunity.
