A good cheap harmonica?

I will through my hat in for the Lee Oskar by Tombo. Best thing to happen to the Blues since Sonny Terry.

Definitely Hohner Marine Band in C. I've played them in bands and jazz clubs for many years as well as off on my own hiking or on horseback.

You play(ed) in bands, w.t.? I've been playing pretty seriously for about 15 years. Moonlight in blues bands off and on. Most of my discretionary cash and free time goes to harp-related stuff, moreso than knives. I've accrued a trunkload of stuff beyond just my harp and Marble Max tube amp: several mics, pre-amps, delay pedal, tuning kit, etc. It's a sickness. :)

I am strictly a Hohner guy now, but I strongly recommend Lee Oskars for beginners because they're so easy to play and last forever.

Yes, I've been fortunate in my past business and personal travels to be able to sit in on a fairly regular basis. Tho' I messed around with harmonicas as a kid - strictly campfire stuff - I didn't get serious until I lived in Little Rock in the late '70s where I had a couple informal groups and often sat in with others. I was playing keyboards then (Fender Rhoades, Korg, Sohmer), but I found it easier to travel with my harp - started spending weekends in Memphis - Blues Alley, where I was lucky to learn from Sonny Harmonica Blake. After that, it was California, playing occasionally in Santa Barbara and San Fran. I moved to Europe in the early '80s where they adored the blues and any American who would play with them. Played weekends at the Mocambo in Taromina, Sciliy. Almost got arrested in Rome airport when the carribeneiri (sp) xrayed my case and thought my Hohner MB was a 9mm weapons clip. Played in on trips to Paris. Did the Blue Note in Brusselles with the Fell Ducks. Since I've been back in the States, it's been different. Few bands want to jam, wanting to stick to straight sets as practised in rehearsal, song by song, note by note. My biggest and last thrill was a night setting in with Johnny Clyde Copland, that year's Grammy winner for best Blues artist, in Omaha. I encourage everyone to keep at it and enjoy those Hohners!
Best Wishes,
"Bloody Bill"

I always carry a Hohner Marine Band in C, great for learnin'.

I play through a Fender Blues Junior(still stock...no tube or speaker changes) amp, an Astatic JT-30 mic, or a Shaker Dynamic mic.
