My In-Laws are coming to visit in November and will be traveling from Portugal to Florida to visit family. They have offered to make a run through Wal Mart for me and do some Christmas shopping.

Every once in a while you guys mention survival/outdoors stuff you got at Wal Mart that was a great deal. Help me remember. :20: I need to come up with a short list of less expensive items.

The only ones I can think of right now are:

Light My Fire Sporks
Fox 40 whistle

Sorry for the slightly misleading title, but I figure that once people start answering it will actually perform as advertised.:D

What else is a good deal at Wally World? Mac

Here they carry the name brand UCO candle lanterns and three-packs of replacement candles. and Coghlan's fire starter sticks. I don't know if they are considered hazmat or not. My impression is that they are waxed wood fiber.

2 or three of their inexpensive knives SPyderco, Kershaw, or CRKT for backups. Hand-warmers.

The Spyderco Native with S30V steel is a good buy, altho it's not at all (many?) Walmarts. But I'd look for that one first, if you're wanting a folder at a good price.

.

I can't remember if I bought some Fatwood at Wal-Mart or if it was another store. Great tinder though.

They usually have a decent price on the mag block fire starter. They also carry a windproof Sportsman's lighter for around $8 that seems to be decent for the price (I have one, but haven't used it a lot yet).

I've seen the Fiskers hatchets and saws for good prices, but they seem to only have them in the spring and summer so may be harder to find right now.

According to people in the Buck knives forum, Wal Mart has some good Christmas deals on Buck knives. Happens only in the U.S. Walmarts, though :(

They have light sticks at a fairly good price. Also, have them look in the camping section for the clear, watertite boxes. They have 2 sizes and both are very reasonable. I picked up a windmill butane lighter knockoff for 9.00 or so. So far, so good.

Agora tem Wal Mart no Brasil. :foot: But they don't carry the same items. Batteries are cheap at Wal Mart (compared to Brasil) and the do have LED headlamps pretty cheap as well.

Nao sou Brasileiro, mais minha esposa e carioca e aprendi Portugues com ela.

I just bought a Kershaw Vapor at Wall Mart for 20 bucks. First folder in 10 years.
I couldn't resist it for all metal construction and a cool design. So far I'm happy with it. :) I will probably go buy a few more for Christmas gifts.

I know lowes carries them and the retractable saw. I still can't seem to find the FOX 40 whistle at wal-mart. Where did you guys find them? In the sporting goods part?

Bikerider,

Casou com carioca? ... boa sorte.:D O WalMart aqui e pessimo, nao tem nada interresante, so as mesmas coisas das outras lojas, tudo de china.

Keep 'em coming. I'm making a list and checkin' it twice. Mac

pict,

Casei sim! Preciso mais de sorte... pelo menos a familia dela mora na Barra da Tijuca... e um otimo lugar para passar as ferias.

Where do you start.

Magblocks
Cheap tarps
Fiskars saws
Cheap outdoor hunting clothing
Water proofing sprays and beeswax (snowseal)
Coleman fuel
Fire starters
medical forceps in the fishing isle
bug repellant
water storage containers
SAK's
ammo

Did I mention I hate walmart.

Yes, sporting goods. Up here in northern Canuckia, the Fox 40s are about 3-4 bux at Wally World, bright orange with a piercingly loud whistle. My g/f and I both have one on our key chains and I have a few extras floating around.

We don't have them here. At least, they aren't packaged as fox 40s. I'll have to take another look at what they do have. I know that they don't carry Fiskars in the store that is nearest to us. Osh carries both the garden axe and sull sized version, but they don't carry the small retractable saw.
