A Good Double Edge

So far I have considered:

Gerber Guardian Back-Up
Gerber Mark II (The New Release)
Kershaw Amphibian
Boker Applegate Fairbairn Fighter
Boker Applegate Boot Knife

I would prefer boot knife size with around a five inch blade. It will be intended for actual use. This is one blade style I do not have and would love to experience. Any other recommendations or experience with the above? Would be willing to put $100 bucks towards a good one.

Thanks,

Well, the Guardian is small (I have an original design one that I gave to my daughter to carry), the MKII is big (I have one I bought back in the 80s), and they don't make (AFAIK) the awesome MKI any more (which I stupidly sold years ago).

Have you looked at the A.G. Russell Sting line? I've always thought they would make a good double edged carry choice.

And, while I've no direct experience with it, the SOG Pentagon always interested me as well.

I completely forgot about the Sting. Does CRKT still make it? Pentagon looks promising too. Thanks!

After an hour's consideration I am leaning towards getting both the Gerber Gaurdian Back-up and CRKT Sting. I can't find much of anything else other than what's been listed.

The Fallkniven G1 is a great knife, but at 3.5" blade length probably too small for what you are looking for.

The PeaceKeeper looks (almost) like a MKI clone, but isn't the off-side of the blade flat ground? I could be wrong, though, can anyone confirm?

Cold Steel Counter TAC I Knife 5" double edge blade, AUS8A stainless steel, 5mm thick, grind and a blood groove, full length tang, black Kraton handle, integral cross guard and a lanyard hole.

Mr. Bad Example - No way man. That baby is dual hollow ground, both sides are ground the same. Look at the size of the grind too. It cuts, just looking at it. Here's the other side:

I'm sure your looking for a FB, but for something a bit different the CS Triple Action is a great double edge folder or sorta folder...:D

So many to choose from. Put a few knives up for trade to see if I have any luck going that route to get what I need. I think one small enough for edc/self defense would work along with a larger 7"-8" blade for one of my BOB's. Looking into that CS Triple action. Thanks for the recommendation, babakanoosh. Thank you all for your generous wisdom.

There is a Carbon V I believe for sale on the forums here. These are very very nice and scary sharp. The Peace Keeper series are very nice for a double edged fighter. Something smaller I would go with the Garm I think it is called. keepem sharp

Ah, perhaps I am thinking of the TAC series? Yes, I like the blade--kinda like a MKI with a little more belly to it (well, and the HG--the MKI had a pretty flat grind).

It is a bit on the small side, but the old CS Culloden I had make a pretty easy-to-carry boot knife as well. Much more of a sticker than a slasher, though and not truly DE.

I carried a TA for a while, though it was the serrated tanto blade version. Very sharp and quick to open with some practice (though I found it had to be kept very clean or it would stick). Also, the aluminum is pretty soft and scratches very easily and if you are not careful you can damage the edge on the handle. It is, I have heard, considered a gravity knife in some jurisdictions, if that is of any concern to you.

If you're looking for a bigger knife for the BOB, a Carbon V CS Trailmaster is tough to beat.
