I found a guy in Amarillo, TX who adverises in the local paper that he makes belt grinders. I gave him a call and went to look at his work. This guy is a retired machinist who makes these in his spare time. He has a 2 x 48 belt grinder with a 6 inch wheel that he sells for $250.00. He also has a 2 x 72 with an 8 inch contact wheel that he sells for $450.00. I ended up buying the 2 x 72 inch size ( this included a 1 hp motor). It has a pretty neat belt tracking system. I hope to try it out as soon as I can get some belts (He gave me a few fine grit belts that I used to test it with). If anyone would like more info< drop me a line

I didn't want to break any rules, but since I am not really advertising, here it is:

The guy's card reads-

GENERAL MACHINE WORK AND TOOLING NEEDS
DEWEY GRIFFIN
(806) 381-1953
3101 SEQUOIA, AMARILLO, TX 79107

No, this guy says he is too old to learn about computers. He places a weekly ad in the Thrifty Nickel paper. You could possibly find his ad in that paper online.

To answer the questions, it is a three wheel setup. Sorry guys but I think i am the only person here without a digital camera. I will see what I can do about a pic. It might take me a coulpe of days. apparently this guy has sold these to several knifemakers in the area. He keeps a sort of scrapbook of satisfied customers. If anyone else is interested, he also makes domers (used to make conchos and belt buckels) and an assortment of other belt sanders for applications other than knifemaking.
