A good pair of hiking boots

Get something that fits your feet, because no two peoples feet are the same. I've tried a lot of the different major brands, and will agree that your feet are not something that you want to skimp on but at the same time you don't have to spend $200+ to get a good pair of boots. I've tried 2 pair of Danners and wouldn't buy another pair if they were $25. Now that's not saying they are bad boots, they're just not good boots for me. My personal favorites are either Vasque, or Asolos. I work as a land surveyor so I am always testing the boots that are on my feet and so far, the Vasque and Asolos have done better than any of the other boots.

I appreciate all the advice. Keep it coming! You've given me great leads to get started.

I also appreciated the comment about being in shape. It is a concern for me. If the trip were tomorrow, I'd have a hard time, physically.

Danner, Scarpa, Vasque are good options that I have had experiance with in the past.

I would suggest renting a good pack. It is usually only a few bucks a day and a good shop will even fit you properly.
