We finally have a great weather weekend on a weekend that we are not running off camping or out of town, or anything else. So, it is looking like a great outdoor weekend at home.

First, we started out shooting our recurves. A bit of target practice. But, I forgot to get any pictures of that : (

We are taking the canoe out fishing today, so last night we started by getting worms.

On to more fun.

My son now has 4 fixed blade knives. A while ago, he was eying the Swiss Army knives at the store, so I figured that every boy has to have one! Luckily, I get them at cost.......so it is not as big of an expensive. So, we flipped through the catalog and he picked on out. Well, it showed up today! How perfect.

Orange boondoggle for obvious reasons : )

It was getting close to campfire time, so we had to make smore sticks : )

Getting the leaves off.

Finishing the tip.

I honestly think that his favorite thing about the knife is the scissors!

He cut stuff up all day long with the scissors.

That is all for now. Hopefully later I will be posting some pictures of our fishing, with some good fish stories : )

Both the bait canteen and the safe knife handling remind me of growing up with my dad.

Great post!

Brian,

That could be a scene from the last couple weekends at my place... Great pics, thanks for putting those up...

Great photos of cute kids having a fun day! They do grow up fast, but then, if you're lucky, you get grandkids! Thanks for sharing your fun day with us!

Have a great weekend Brian!

I wan't to see pics of your boy cleaning those fish bro!

Whew - I was not expecting that.

You know how sometimes just seeing an object will bring back memories?

That 'Bait Canteen' is the very same one (only a little larger) that I bought for my father MANY years back.

Just seeing the logo brought back a FLOOD of memories of being in my father garage and fishing. Whew - it was like a bit torrent for the brain! ;)

Thanks.

Awesome! Building memories to last a lifetime.

I need to make more time to do this myself but it's hard atm since we have an almost 1 month old besides our 8 yr old that I hate leaving the misses to take care of all the time.

That camo SAK is great. I may have to look into one of those for my boy.

Great pics and sounds like a great weekend outing. Enjoy it while you can. I swear,it will seem like by the time those worms quit wiggling, she will be off to the prom and your son will be after the car keys!!

Love it, great pics. I really like the pic with the HUGE gloves on your girls little hands when she is holding the worm. hahahaha

Sweet SAC your boy has, I think I used the scissors on mine when I was a kid more than the blade too! Damn handy.

Thanks for sharing, now go get some fish!!!

Looks like a god time with the kids. The boy seems to really enjoy the new SAK! Hope to see some fish here son

Looks like a good time. I'm taking my Twins fishing tomorrow after Church;)
How old is your son ? I'm getting ready to find my twins a SAK for their first pocket knife (they are 5) Just not sure which model.
Thanks for sharing the pics.

Thanks guys for all the comments.

Those bait canteens are classic! We had one fishing with my dad growing up too. They are a far cry from the stryofoam things now that you see in the stores. You can still find them places, and when you do, they are very inexpensive.

My son is now 6 1/2. We started on knives together early, and has been doing excellent with his fixed blades. Up until this point the folders have required too much hand strength to safely open and close. I was worried about the "snap" factor. However, we played with some of mine before getting this, and he seems to have it down extremely well.

You could look at something like this as a first pocket knife.
