a good thick blade folder?

Someone was trying to unload a skirmish for pretty cheap on the exchange boards the last few days. I'd go for an axis-lock personally. Benchmade 610 615 710 520 525

I'd suggest saving for just a bit longer and getting the Manix. It's an awesome folder for the money, and just a little bit over $100.

Stay sharp,

I just got a Manix for about $106 and $10 shipping off the net. Great heavy duty knife, probably the sharpest folder I've got.

Some have not been brought up.

The Cold Steel Ultimate Hunter. 5/32 or 4mm plus minus blade thickness.

Extreme Ratio Fulcrum II. I forget the exact measurement but its thick. Like a 1/4" thick and built like a tank. You could lock this blade open, then lock the lock and hammer this thing in a tree or wall and use it as a leg up! Its that strong. Probably the strongest folder I've ever handled.

If you're willing to spend $100 you can afford the Manix. I thing $112 is the lowest common price I've seen.

If you really want to spend less, I'd recommend a Strider/Buck 889 which will cost you about $55.

You can see CRKT's Crawford/Kasper model with that handle here. I wouldn't call the CRKT a good knife, either. The steel is particularly awful. If I had $100 to spend on a stout folder I'd look @ spyderco, kershaw, buck or benchmade on newgraham.com
CRKT steel for that particular knife (420J2) is awful. It's dreadful, horrendous, garbage, junk, scrapmetal, linerlock material, and it's far, far worse than the stainless used in your M-Tech.

But CRKT's M21-04 and its M16-13LE and -14LE are very nice folders and both are made with AUS8A stainless. They also both sport the Lake and Walker Knife Saftety systems, which add considerable strength to the linerlock design. These knives, to me, are just plain purty and fun to play with.

The Spyderco, Kershaw and Benchmade are going to be exceptional, but pricey, knives, though Kershaw makes some pretty nice folders; still, to some, their wavy S-blade shapes are an acquired taste. Ditto with some of the Spyderco knives. I don't care for their looks, but they are very nice knives...as good as anyone will ever need in a folder.
