A good watch and a lighter

I'm tired of things breaking! I'm looking at getting a new watch and a new lighter soon, and I was wanting some recommendations.

Watch: I want something that is waterproof, I don't care how far down as I won't be diving with it, but all the watches I've had that say waterproof to 50m have leaked. This will be EDC, but I want it to be rugged for hiking and canoeing. I want a watch from a company that will stand behind their product, so if that means the company itself is awesome or I need to get it from someplace like REI with good return policies. I haven't been happy with Timex support. I wouldn't mind one with a digital compass, altimeter, etc... but I want something that looks nice and isn't huge and bulk on the wrist (or that looks like it was made in 1992). Easily replaceable wrist strap is a must too. A lot of the newer watches have the wrist band incorporated into the watch, so if it breaks/rips, I'm stuck sending it in. I'd like it to be digital, as I like the added features. I'd like to keep the price around $150, but I appreciate all advice and suggestions.

Lighter: I've carried the small peanut lighters for a long time, and while nice, I've lost a few from the unscrewing on my keychain, or the gasket wears out and my fluid leaks out. I'd like something for EDC, but tough enough to go with me any where. I'm leaning towards butane, as I don't want the maintenance of a wick lighter. Something windproof would be nice. I want something as slim and as small as possible. Some type of button protection, where I can drain the fuel in my pocket. I don't have a price range in mind, but maybe $50ish?

Thanks for your help!

Watch: St. Moritz SLK. Simple digital water proof watch. I have one of their analogs and it has been great. CS I've heard is very good, but I've never had to use it. That's the only one I can think of that has a band that is not molded to the shape of the watch and would be easily replaced. If I got one, first thing I'd do is swap it out for a Maratac Silicon from County Comm: http://www.countycomm.com/silicone.htm

Lighter: I have no experience with anything that really sounds like what you want. I use wick lighters and Bics.

Here is something new at County Comm too that I just found, that may be just exactly the ticket for you in expanding your choices on watches with watch bands. Casio makes excellent, tough, waterproof digital watches. This adapter lets yous use regular watchbands with them: http://www.countycomm.com/adapter.htm

Watch: Casio G-shock is my every day beater watch. Takes all the abuse I throw at it. Doesn't leak, and it sets itself by the atomic clock via satellite, and has a light-up display.

Lighter: Bic's are cheap and always do it for me.

There are many great digital watch choices in the price range. I like the simple look of the St. Moritz posted, but Casio, Citizen, Seiko, and Suunto are all solid choices. Personally, if I were in your situation I might get this Orient:

100m WR with screw-down crown and caseback. Sapphire crystal that won't scratch. Good looks... reminiscent of an Omega Speedmaster, but retains digital functionality. Can switch out straps... also comes in black PVD with leather.

Hey! Who moved my post?

I was writing with wilderness use in mind, wanting to draw on the knowledge of those who use their gear in the bush, and would be willing to depend on the gear for survival situations. Do I have to include the word wilderness or survival to keeps my posts there?

It's like we have a psychic connection. Here is a video I just made for my lighters:

I use the slim one. The reason I have them in my store is because I had bought one myself and liked it so much for EDC and outdoor use thanks to its slim and small form factor that I thought others would like it for the same reason. It doesn't really have a button protection, but you could always ranger band it.

I like the Seiko and Orient automatic dive watches, but really my G-shock is my workhorse watch. Very difficult to kill, been wearing them for 15 years and don't plan on stopping.

Remember, the depth rating isn't necessarily how deep you will actually go, it speaks of how well sealed the watch is. Most watch manufacturers and watch geeks recommend at least 200m WR for water sports or swimming.

I have never had a refillable butane lighter that was even slightly reliable, even the expensive ones. Zippo does sell a keychain capsule that holds a refill of lighter fluid for the Zippo.

How does Orient compare to Invicta? Amazon has them on a Black Friday sale.

...You want a watch that will NOT leak? Get yourself a Citizen 300m "Ecozilla".

Ain't gonna find that for $150 unless you buy it used, band is integrated into the watch frame, and it isn't what I would call "not bulky"; in fact when I tried it on I felt it was fricken' huge. Great watch though.

I don't have lighters, but my current favourite outdoor watch is simple Casio G-Shock Gulfman. A great and tough watch. It is also not too big, I don't have very big wrists.

Nothing for lighters.

But for watches, G-Shocks are standard beaters. Seiko divers come next.

The "Ecozilla" IS a huge, "tall", heavy watch...Sort of like wearin' a hockey puck strapped to your wrist...But it does keep excellent time, doesn't require a battery, and is alot more waterproof than I am.:).

As far as the price...Yah, I was thinking that since this is such a solid watch, that buying a "used" one isn't too much of a risk. I've seen some pretty good "used" ones sell for right around $100-$120.

If you want a watch for outdoor ruff use and ability to see in pitch dark get a Luminox. Have been wearing the same one for 15 years.
