A good watch

Casio G-Shock
Citizen Eco-Drive
Omega mechanicals
Seiko automatics

Those seem to be the ones that are mentioned the most.
Omega SMP here.:D

I agree with the recommendation on the Citizen Eco Drive. I have 5 of them. They recharge their batteries from solar power so you don't have to change batteries regularly. Very cool. On the negative side, they aren't quite as accurate as regular quartz watches but close. Mine normally run about 30 seconds fast per week. Take care.

I would also recomend the Citizen Eco Drive. My wife got me one for our anniversary and I love it. I havn't noticed mine being nearly as innacurate as 30sec/week. I've had mine for about 1 year now and have never reset the thing. Over that period I don't think the time has changed by more then a few minutes one way or another. I've been very happy with it and if anything were to happen to it, I would buy another one without hesitation.

If you are looking for a quartz watch there is really no better choice than an Eco-Drive. They come in a tremendous array of styles and all work great, so you should be able to find one you like.

Both G-shocks and Timex Ironman watches make for a good functional beater if all you want is something tough that will tell time.

If you are looking for a moderately priced mechanical I would recommend taking a look at Invicta, the Seiko Automatics, and particularly Poljot.

Another vote for the Citizen Eco-drive, I have 2 and really like them, I´ve been using one of them more than my mechanicals lately (and I´m very fond of mechanicals).

Also, I recently got my first Seiko 5, pretty nice automatic, with a see-trough back.

Poljots are cool too.

There are also a lot of newer "sport/camping/hiking" watches that contain all sorts of gadgets if that's what you are into. Styles, sizes, features, and prices all vary.

Excluding mechanicals, take a look at the Tissot T-Touch.

Get yourself a Casio G-Shock Tough Solar...I got one a couple weeks ago (GW300A-1V), and now ALL my other watches have been resting in a drawer, lonely.

Breitling B1. It was gadgety enough for me to go against my hatred of battery powered watches and buy it. Been wearing it everyday for the past 3 years.

I also dig the Tissot T-Touch, but I have to recommend the watch that I wear every day: Breitling Chrono Avenger. Before anyone complains how big it is, let me tell you, you get used to it really quickly. I have really small wrists, the watch practically covers my whole wrist, but now when I wear a "normal" size watch, I feel like I'm wearing a ladies' watch.

I think you got a bad batch.

My Eco-Drive Skyhawk is the most accurate watch I've ever had. It loses just over 30 seconds per year. :D The Eco-Drive Silhouette my wife wears isn't quite that good, but it's still off by less than 15 seconds per month.

I guess I have to recommend the Eco-Drives too. :p

I like the Citizen Ecos but I like the Seiko Kinetics and Auto's even better. Also take a peak at Poljot mechanicals/autos. They make some very nice (albeit very large) looking watches that cost alot less than they should. G-Shocks are also high on my list for the everyday beater category as well is Luminox (3001). If you are looking for a higher end piece, I am with Paul. Omega is very hard to beat!

Another vote for Citizen Eco-Drive. My Perpetual Calendar Titanium only loses about 45 seconds per YEAR.

For fun, the new Atomic Solar G-Shocks are pretty cool.

i remember i used to carry my bedside alarm clock in my pocket when the straps on my casio g shock broke and none of the shops could find an exact replacement strap...

now i use a simple tag heuer which is highly accurate but it's bloody annoying when i have to change the dates at the end of a 30 day month...

i also use my casio mr giez g shock watch a lot...nice to not worry about ruining a watch...it's not that expensive and it'll take a hard knock....
