A Good Work Knife

Hey everybody. I just got a new job at a photography studio. I'm doing the yard work and painting. I was wondering what would be a good work knife. I would like a folder if possible. I don't want anything too big. A two to three inch blade will do fine. It has to have a good blade that can take some cutting without wearing easily, and I would like the handle and blade to fit together nicely.

If anyone has any suggestions I would appreciate it.

Take a look at the Spyderco Delica. 3" blade, lightweight, slim, good lock, classic successful design.

You can also get the Delica in serrated or partly serrated edge and in stainless steel handle.

I agree with both Delica and Mini-Grip. Don't think you can go wrong with either.

I would like one under 50 bucks. I have a job but putting gas in my truck takes away quite a bit of what I make.

if you use ebay, you can find a Delica for about $45 with shipping. a Mini-Grip will usually run you about $15 more than that.

I do photography, and have thought a Spyderco Yojimbo would be handy. The profile would make it easy to sharpen, and to follow a straight edge for trimming photos, mats, etc.

You might want to consider a Byrd G-10 Meadowlark. You can get one for roughly half of your stated budget, but it's a really great knife and (IMO) worth quite a bit more.

Another thought for a knife in your price range would be a Kershaw Needs Work.

Padawan suggests the Byrd Meadowlark, and this is also an excellent idea. i have one, and it ran me about $30. great solid folder.

the Spyderco Yojimbo is a good suggestion, but you're probably not going to find one for less than $80.

How are My Tighe Assisted Open Knives? They look nice. Does anyone have one?

I don't have one, but I think any of the suggestions so far are better than this knife. I have not been happy with CRKT designs and materials lately, and if you are talking about the one with "1.4116 Steel", i can honestly say i have no idea what that is.

Maybe one of the many many Victorinox swiss army knives would be handy? They have a model for just about everything, i'm sure you'll find one of 'em handy, and the blades get scalpel sharp. The price is always right, too.

I don't have a Cara Cara, but I have a Meadowlark, which is basically the exact same thing with a smaller blade. Mine came extremely sharp. The steel is good. The lockup is very solid. I mean it's a really loud click you can feel. There is no blade play at all. The knife is just solid all-around. I don't think you can possibly be disappointed with the Cara Cara, especially for that price.

Vic SAK would be great. Take a look at the alox models like Soldier, or Farmer, or Electrician, they are all good and slim enough.
