A Good Work Knife

The Victorinox Hunter and Tradesman would end up getting into your soul, probably- though my preference all around is the Outrider.

To answer the first question- just get a pouch sheath with a clip. I'll tell you why soon.

I work in painting, landscaping, and deck/patio construction. I use EVERY tool on this knife almost daily. The saw is just big enough to be usable on small branches and whatnots that are in the way, actually functions as a shrubbery pruner when I'm on my knees and can't be bothered to run back to my work buckets.

The scissors are REALLY handy- finish work, tape trimming when you don't want to leave a knife blade imprint, even hangnails.

The phillips? Anyone who works with power tools needs it.

The corkscrew? I use it to undo knots, often.

The awl needs no explaining, nor the package carrier.

bottle opener and can opener, well, you know.

and a nice, sturdy, usable locking blade. Without serrations, so you can use the whole blade.

Width is just right, it's a 4 layer, fits in the hand like a real knife.

I keep a lanyard on mine, and it's worth considering.

oh, right- the sheath- when I'm really working, and doing funky things with one handed grip changes, those mounted clips get in the way.

Now, this is not the end all be all. It doesn't replace my Al Mar one hander, nor my SOG Government. Doesn't even replace my Hori-Hori!

But is ALWAYS in my pocket or toolbelt. always.

The OHT (one handed trekker) might work for you if you need one handed opening. I can manage on the outrider but I'm thinking of adding a thumb stud.

Maybe not classy enough, but there's a reason so many victorinox knives are out there, yknow?
