A good working folder...

I'm looking now for a good, inexpensive folder for work.

You know, the kind of knife you use when you are doing things you do not want your other knives see :p

Seems like the obvious choice is the Spyderco Endura, but the tip looks too thin. Maybe the Native is better, or a Cold Steel Voyager...

Any suggestions?

PS
Why we always "need" another knife? ;)

Sorry for my engish :o

Give us some more details... I.E. what kind of work\ what blade style do you prefer\ what carry method\ serated-or-combo-or-plain price range,(Cheap for some is 'not so cheap' for others... etc....

Ill go ahead and throw the Buck 110 out there. 30 or so $$$ at wal-mart strong as nails.

The Benchmade Mini-Griptilian/Griptilian would be a good choice, as would a large clip-point Cold Steel Voyager...Of those two, I'd get the Benchmade.

CRKT Marzitelli Prowler. Cand be found for ~$35 and is pretty damn durable and has a nice deep bellied blade. AUS-6 kinda sucks, but it sharpens up quick ;)

Hows about a Cold Steel Trailguide? It's a folder with Carbon-V blade steel and a choice of 3" or 4" flat ground drop point and clip point blade styles. On line, they sell for between $19-30.

Runsalone, you're right!
I was thinking in a $50-$60 range folder, nothing fancy but robust and with a good steel, not a tanto and plain edge by any means!
The kind of work... any kind! I'm looking for a real beater :)

GarageBoy and Glockman, the Griptilian is a nice choice, but I'm afraid that the axis lock can be very hard to clean if things get messy... What do you think?

Thombrogan, the Trailguide looks good, but I need stainless steel. Here in the tropics we can rust plastic if we have enough time :D

u812, I didn't think in a fixed blade, could be a good choice...

I'm gonna take a look at the Pika and the Prowler, thanks!

By the way guys, you are fast!
I was only expecting a couple of replies for tomorrow :)

Several fine options have been mentioned. I've had an SE Endura since '91 and consider it to be an excellent work/chore knife. I also own a CRKT Prowler which has a very strong design made even stronger and safer by the presence of the LAWKS system which basically turns the Prowler into a fixed blade when activated. I've never owned a Native or a Grip' but I've held a few and they appear to be very solid. If I were you I'd narrow down my choices then I'd go to a knife store and closely examine each one while taking into consideration the exact needs you will have for the knife.

Native 3! they are fantastic little knives; Mine has not left my pocket since I bought it. Even my Al Mar sere 2000 sits there while I carry the Native. The width of the blade can startle sheeple though.

BRK Native is not a fixed blade.
Look on ebay under Spyderco 1st generation Native.

I don't think the axis lock is too hard to clean. Use a little compressed air to clean out pocket gunk. Even if you got the mechanism filled with mud I imagine you could just wash the thing out, oil the lock, and you'd be good to go.

The Axis-lock isn't hard to clean.

If you are looking for a pretty darn rust-"proof" knife, then you NEED a Spyderco Salt 1...That H-1 steel is almost as rust-resistant as plastic.:D.

Also, in a fixed-blade knife, the Benchmade 100SH2O would be PERFECT, as it is also pretty darn rust-resistant!

Alberto,
You were given plenty good options, the Native is my favorite economical "work" knife, good construction and materials and excellent ergonomics; don't have one, but the KaBar "Dozier" folders are around $20 and seem like a good value.

Buena Suerte!

I'll put in a vote for the native. Great edge and great ergos with a style and shape that just grows on you. Quite thin at the tip however so it's primarily just a cutter. It's almost magic the way that spyderco knives, particularly the Military and Native create such a 'big' knife out of a small light package.

The Native is great knife but the new VG10 Endura is no slouch. If you want a compact knife that cuts like magic the Calypso Jr fills the bill.

Spend an extra 10 and get a Greco Falcon. That knife will out last you if you take good care of it. Nothing I know can compare with the 3/16 thick 8670 blade with a solid steel handle.

Columbia River Knife and Tool makes some pretty good folders for the money. There are so many models that you would do well to get into a cutlery store, if possible, and handle them.
