A sweet Tap Tap Tap on the door this morning warned me that the World's Best Post Woman left a package on the front porch!!;) Naturally, I leapt! What a treat in these self-isolating times!! And much more than I expected!!:eek:France Jan JM 2.jpg France Jan JM 1.jpg
Here are some closer scans; I will report in more detail in appropriate threads! Rest assured these are great knives !!:DFrance JM 3.jpg France JM 4.jpg France JM 5.jpg France JM 6.jpg France JM 7.jpg
Thanks J-M!!

What a wonderful package from abroad! That first one with the needle? is intriguing. I worked on a similar one a little while ago, and I liked the construction and layout.

A nice group shot! :thumbsup::thumbsup::thumbsup:

...

What is the one with the corkscrew?
I want the snakewood with corkscrew! Who makes that?
It is a pattern from Burgundy.
Looks like handles are barrel shaped : Tonneau (barrel), if flat : Tiré-droit (straight drawn), also Galvacher (beef driver in burgundian).

Seahorse was Arthaud 's of Thiers trademark, now extinct since years. A few makers still make both patterns.

Thanks! Which makers can it be purchased from?

The first knife has real nice horn handles, cut on a bias for display/exhibition!! The secondary is a combination Leather awl-Sacking needle - it will sew up either. Ground flat on the pile side, it can be honed for leather work or dulled for sacking!! A good farmer's tool!!:)France A.jpg

Hello :)
The Tiré-droit/Tonneau (straight with rounded-up handles??) has been built with all parts by the association "Les Vieilles lames".
If some of you are interested I can ask if some more are available.

My advisors say this knife was constructed of parts; A Tire'-droit by the association that preserves cutlery history - a worthy venture!! (see above)
Arthaud's of Thiers Seahorse!! An extinct Brand apparently!
Hippocampinox!
A great picnic knife!! Nice Snakewood!!;)France B.jpg

Can you please do some testing and let us know how well that works as a wine bottle opener? :D

It seems like that big blade sticking out may make pulling the cork out a bit painful. o_O
