A Guys Name On The Knife :barf:

Hold the knife in your other hand and you won't see the name
:D

Hahaha!

I don't really care about having a maker/designers mark on blades, but large gaudy sayings etched all over it is a real turn off if i can't just rub it off somehow.

For example: the Camillus EDC i would be ok with, but printing out "Every Day Carry" just looks silly and lame to me. However, it's a decent knife and for that, i purchased it.

I've REALLY been looking into the Spyderco Police recently, and for once i can afford it. However, i'm not a police officer...i'll check back here for advice on getting rid of that. Search function hates me. I'm a bit of a picky bastard like that though...

No you are not. The search function here always get me a nice view of "page not found". You are better off typing what you want using Google. It does a better job of finding posts here than the search engine the site has IMO. At least thats been the case for me. Here lately I've gotten a lot of blank white pages yet Explorer says "done" at the bottom left of my screen. I always kind of chuckle when someone says, "use the search engine" around here. Makes me wonder if they have used it lately themselves actually because it never works for me.

Even if Pardue was world famous knife maker i wouldn't want his name on the knife. ?

He is a world famous knifemaker.

By not purchasing the knives, I guess you are doing the best thing you can do to show companies like Benchmade that you don't like them putting people's names on your knives. I don't think they are going to notice though.

There's a term that I can't think of right now that refers to a knife with no name or markings on it. It's used by the Dark Ops guys, so when they leave their knife in a guy it can't be tracked down to them. What iis that word?
Maybe that's what soggy wants.

As has been said above, the word for a knife that is completely without markings is 'Sterile' (as in clean)

Ironically, that is the LAST word that could possibly be used to describe any of the 'Dark Ops' knives. They use almost every square inch of blade as a writing surface.

For instance, one of them has the following inscribed on the blade flat. In absolutely HUGE letters:

PAUL BASAL "SHADOW"
DARK OPS FIGHTING KNIVES
COBALT VANADIUM TUNGSTEN
S T A I N L E S S S T E E L

(in all capitals, next to a gigantomous Navy Seals logo, of course)

If Jane Doe designed it and had her name put on it that would be alright. My knives are babes. I don't have any ugly ones. I dont have any that are masculine either.

looks like some baggage here... major issues... hidden in the closet

...not that theres anything wrong with that:D

But seriously, if it bothers you that much (and i think it does), it shouldnt matter how much effort it would take to grind, sand or blast it off. get that man's name off.

then go to the bar, find Jane Doe, take her home and tap that s#!t:D

For those who are so wondering about someone not wanting to have a blade with more text than average tabloid - have you seen Kershaw Spyker?
I think some companies should realize that trying to utilize every cent they paid for laser etching machine isn't the best way.

How would you feel about a kitchen knife with Lorena Bobbits name on it? That's a girls name.

Jubei

That Spyker etching is hideous. I would not buy any knife that didn't have low key printing of any important data or names. Looks dime-store to me Huugh.

Everything has labels... I see people driving around in Eddie Bauer logo Ford Explorers, while wearing Ralph Lauren logo shirts, with a Nike hat, and Steve Madden shoes. We all pay to adverise for these people. Some people do this kind of thing on purpose, brand whores. If you don't like it don't buy it, plain and simple. :jerkit:

Obviously there is a bit of a question mark as to if this bothers people or not when a name or logo is smeared all across the blade of the knife they carry. If you guys think that people don't mind and that those of us that think they do are wrong maybe we should start a survey and ask John Q. Public what he thinks. And I don't mean a survey like that one that Blade Magazine did where guys cleared their cookies and voted ten times each to slant the results. I mean an unbiased clean survey to find out; "Do you mind writing on the blades you buy?" Yes or No. For the survey we shoud elaborate some to get an idea of where John Q. draws the line also.

Personally I can't see how anyone can believe that a signiture, name or logo that takes away attention from their product is a good thing. When the signiture or logo stands out more than the product itself its not a good thing IMO. This coming from a guy with major marketing and sales backgrounds. I don't think sacrificing sales and profits to satisfy someone's ego is a good idea.

You know I get where this guy is coming from . It is not the fact that the name is on the knife . It is the difference between a full name and a family name .

A full name can intone personal ownership . A family name is a little more like a brand . Sure it could mean personal ownership . It is more generally accepted to mean " Maker " .

I have this neat silver throwing knife . Clean lines and a mirror finish .
The guy who owned the flipping knife before me engraved his initials in huge sloppy deep dots . You couldn,t polish these things off with a chisel .

OWNERSHIP ? i have something that guy is going to own if I ever catch up to him .:( :( :( :D

This is off topic, SORRY! :foot:

STR, I have tried emailing you a couple times and have not been able to get ahold of you. If you did not get them, are busy, or just not interested thats fine, I was just curious if you had gotten anything.

Thanks,

Ryan

PS, my email address thru here is no longer active and I have tried to change it a couple times but it won't let me so if you try to email me use my user name at gmail.com

Well, I think I can agree with the very minimal writing suggestions. Spyderco is usually pretty good at this, minus the Spyker...just the S/G or E/G, steel and which factory most of the time. Yeah, there should be no writing on the secondary grind ever. You know what I hate?

LIMITED EDITION

written all over the side of the blade

My 41MC had that. I still love it, but jeez, it's not that big a deal. It's not like it's a 500 dollar DDR custom or something. Put special edition in tiny lettering on the tang.

FLAMTNBKR, no I have not seen anything from you.

Didn't show up in my spam box either. Try Lgtfutatcableone.net Use the @ sign instead of at though.

I'm the guy that sanded off the Queen etch on my Canoe.

Go for it.
There aint nothing like that first 220 grit pass on a mirror finish.
:D

RE: DORK OPS. Does anyone actually buy these things besides the "Walter Mitty" types?

Cougar thanks. I have read that BTW. Those tips help but even knowing those things it still doesn't change the fact that the search engine here is the pickiest of any I've ever used. Don't get me wrong, I love the BF a lot. I'm not complaining about the site at all; as no emotion is behind this to read into it. I'm just stating the facts basically. I've had religious bad luck with the search engine here. Just the things I type I guess. They never seem to go.

Next time I can't find something I'll maybe write you a PM and see if you can nail why for me. Maybe with help I'll figure it out.
