after hearing all the buzz about the Byrd line, i got a cara cara to see what it was about.

i just opened a package of 5 byrds, a delica, and a trainer today :D

felt like christmas opening that box packed with knives. almost like opening an attache case full of cash.

anyways i'd just like to say that out of the models i've checked out, (crossbill, flight, cara cara, crow, meadowlark), i'm pleased with every one. in fact, i like the SS flight more than the SS delica! great quality construction, i think a layman would pay more for the flight than the delica if he saw the two.

my thanks and congratulations to Spyderco for earning a new fan.

I started off with Cold Steel and owned mostly CS but Spyderco has won me over with the Byrds. Now I own mostly spyderco.

as far as marketing goes, i think spyderco is doing fine. leave CS to turn knife-less people into knife knuts, then get the knife knuts to buy spyderco!

not to start off a "this brand is better" war but i was just very pleased with the Byrds.

i still like thumb studs over the round and comet holes though. i can't get used to opening the spydies. it takes me 3 times as long to open. help?

Just play with. . . er, I mean practice with them a lot! ;) The Spydie hole was a little awkward for me too at first. You'll get used to it though.

Congratulations on the instant collection. I wish I had the spare cash to buy that many knives all at once. Even at the prices on the Byrds it's still one knife at a time for me, and not nearly as often as I'd like. :grumpy:

what is the black blade coat on the Crow made of? Is it suitable for food preparation?

It's quite cute and feels great in my hand.

haha thanks. I saw some great deals on ebay and the seller even offered me a flat $9.75 shipping NO MATTER HOW MANY knives i won!! :D:eek:

i had to take that for all it was worth! almost got myself a pack of 12 Firebyrds and an Endura too.

I will enthusiastically recommend the Byrd line to anyone who asks me about knives.

Likely you are just used to the style you were first exposed to. As the previous poster stated, just play with them until you get used to it.
