I forged this from an old ball peen hammer doing a differential heat treat using a 1075 steel recipe in my Evenheat furnace. It is around 60 Rc on the edge and somewhat softer on the body.
The handle is curly maple but if you get the urge to throw it at the wood pile or the barn door change the handle to the extra hickory one that I will ship with the hawk. Handles are easily broken when throwing but easy to replace on a hawk.
The haft length is 18 inches
Cutting edge: 3 inches
A simple leather edge cover
