A heads up to the newer Buckaroos

The e-Bay folks have probably talked to this seller but they can't do a lot without convincing proof that the knives are fake.

I offered proof. There is a thread in the archives about those very knives and Phil Duckett had me send one of them to him to give to their legal department. They are confirmed as phony and the seller was informed of that fact and proof offered to him.

I'm sure e-Bay would need more than some opinions on an internet thread to take action against this guy.

An official verification from Buck would probably do it.

Here's another odd one (at least to me).

http://cgi.ebay.com/BUCK-110-KNIFE-...emQQptZLH_DefaultDomain_0?hash=item3358cdfb57

The sheath that's displayed in some of the pictures is different from the usual synthetic style sheath.

Everything else looks authentic, but that sheath looks like sheaths that are sold with cheap China knives.

Nope, they are for real. I have three of those sets and they all came with that cheap sheath. I also have a couple of other 100 year 110's that came with the same sheath.

I never noticed those cheap sheaths before, but I never bought any "Bucks in tins" before this year and my Founder's Edition has a normal synthetic sheath. It's quite heavy and well-constructed.

I asked the seller why I can't find them in the catalog. This was the reply:

"All I can tell you is what I have been telling every one that has ask.
There is no markings on the knife or the box. No numbers, no USA, CHINA,
JAPAN, ETC. Thats why I put in the add made in China. Sorry I cant tell you
more."

I'm sure the seller hasn't got a clue and is reluctant to take our word for it since he's not entirely positive we know what we're talking about.

As to the sheath question......the sheath for the Commemorative that I linked looks exactly like the sheath on the FAKE.......it's just that the Commemorative has a stamp added.

Did Buck really ever use such crappy sheaths?

I do know that not all real Bucks show up in the catalogs. I have a 480, made in China fixed blade for the Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation that was never in the catalogs. Either Joe or CJ said that they were produced just for RMEF offshore and weren't a catalog item. I'm sure that there were many more like that.

Also, aside from a few Limited Editions, the new model 111 was never a catalog item and Ive never been able to get an answer as to why not.

I have a Buck 422 with the same style top opening sheath.

I just checked and sure enough, the two 100th year 112's I have in the tins both have that sheath, so yeah, they did make them.

I just finished reading this thread. To me it is amazing that they can get away with that. They go to so much trouble to fake the knife. The box is a dead ringer for the real thing. I would think somehow they should be shut down. And they have a 99% rating, go figure.

I wonder if Buck has a program on shuting down fake Bucks, or how about the police.

I agree with everything said except that they are "liberals", "capitolist" would be a better describtion or "unsavory capitolist". By the way, I do have a sheath like the one pictured and the sheath is made in China, but the 110 is real.

Not really, look again. The one with the fake has a flap over the top and the 100 year doesn't. It opens at the top and is more like a sleeve. The top is held together with velcro.

I guess these old eyes couldn't pick that up.

Sorry looking sheaths, anyhow. I guess not too many of the boxed knives get a ride in those anyway. I guess you'd call it a token sheath.

Again, if you check the feedback on this seller, I don't see a history of selling fake knives.....or any knives, for that matter.

Rather than being a crook, I think the guy is pretty much clueless and simply unwilling to take the word of strangers that his knife is a fake.

I tagged them with "lilly liberals" because they are anti-gun. Liberal and anti-gun are two words that go together like siamese twins.

Its a shame that eBay doesn't do a better job with issues like this one.

I'm sure all it would take is a call or a letter from CJ, Joe or Phil to get it done. I'm not sure why that hasn't happened, since Phil asked me to send him one to give to the legal department.
Could be it's such small potatoes, they don't feel the need to deal with it.

Unfortunately there are buyers out "there" who do buy these things and assume they are real Buck Knives. We try to stay on top of this; Joe Houser sends me the info or a link and I then work to shutdown the sale/listing. We have had success shutting down some of these, but the problem is that they just pop up again under a new identity and we start all over. We don't always catch things in time either; if the auction has already ended before I contact eBay, it is too late.
Yes that is one of my "other" jobs, because of my background and education, here at Buck, besides the Manufacturing/Shipping/etc.
