When I previously posted pics about the modified promontory peg deadfall, some people commented that they still thought they could make a figure 4 trap in the same time.

I think some might have thought that the parts needed to be carved etc but that isn't the case.

I decided to make a quick vid today showing just how quick the trap is to make using just a stick and some cedar root cordage. I made two mistakes today, one was trying to set up the trap on a wet slippery surface and the second was using a weight that was much heavier than needed and very unbalanced.
You will see that I did set it once but it was nowhere near sensitive enough. I realised it just wasn't going to happen with that weight today so I stopped filming, I would have had just the same problem with a figure 4 using that weight.
I hope it still shows how quick the parts are to set up !

This is how it should have looked once set~

Very nice!
I didnt realize how you made the peg,
just a saw cut on opposite sides of the stick
and then snap it.
ingenious!

One question,
how could you go shoot that whole video
and not even give us even a single
"gosh darn it"
If it were me,that video wouldnt be
suitable for anyone under the age of 21 :D

I try to find a stone with long leveled edge to be in contact with ground ;-) easier to set up and you ensure vertical drop of stone to to one side
