Thanks, everyone. The problem with the debt-free lifestyle is you can't drive a new car unless you make a lot more than I do, so you have to fix the old one once in a while.
I did manage to snap a few pictures before the sun went down. I shot a few in direct sunlight to get the G-10 color, but the sun was so low I was having a hard time trying to get both the light and the angle. What can I say, I'm not a photographer.
And my whole Calypso family shot indoors.
I was pleased to see the weight gain from the addition of steel liners wasn't too severe. The original C54 at 89 grams makes a carbon fiber Military feel heavy by comparison, but the 122 grams of the Sprint version is certainly bearable. I was also pleased that the thin grind (0.018" at the back of the edge bevel) survived the intervening years. Oddly enough, the new version is actually a bit thinner, 0.351" compared to 0.383" for the Micarta by my calipers in spite of the extra layers. I do miss the radiused edges and smooth finish of the old one, though. This one has a less gentlemanly and more workmanlike feel to it. The action started very smooth, but got rather rough when I flipped the clip to RH tip down. I think the screws must have turned out a burr on the bottom of one of the holes. It smoothed back out very quickly, and is now a bit slicker feeling than the Micarta piece I was comparing it to.
It's also somewhat amusing to note that there are twice as many Sprint run pieces as there are original PE C54s ot there. Is it still a Sprint Run if it outnumbers the original model?
Thanks again, Sal. I was really worried that I would miss out on this one through sheer bad timing.
