a japanese folder and a changing view on knives

Stu, mine is a little smaller at 75mm. The handle of mine comes in just under 100mm, but with the extended tang the overall length is a little less than 110mm. The blade is right about 3", closed length of the handle is 3 7/8", and the overall closed length with the tang is 4 1/4". I'm pretty sure the closed length that sellers list is just the handle.

That said, the 90mm probably isn't that bad unless you're wearing some pants that are way too tight.:D These knives are so thin and lightweight that you can forget they are even there.

Thanks for the info, I think the 75mm would be more to my liking.

Thanks Mike. That was a wonderful read. My friend just dropped by and managed to buy me a gift while he was in Japan. Luckily he was able to find the last two in the shop. They are very rough out the box and need some fine tuning, but razor sharp.

This thread has driven me over the edge I absolutely need one of these knives I've wanted to try one forever so I guess I'll cough up 20 bucks and try one or two:D.

Got a couple by Maruyoshi - 3 3/4" blade - and love 'em. They do require a "break-in" period as the pivot is very tight out of the box.

Overall, very satisfied and they make a great conversation piece.

blazerman, we don't get into pricing and dealers here on the forum but in my opinion that's over double what you can get one for delivered. If you need details send me an email and I'll be happy to provide you with a link.

Do you think you would be able to pm that address? I tried to shot you an email but I don't think it worked.

just got mine in from Japan. Flat out great knife. Sharp as the dickens out of the box and feels good. I stuck a Nitize eClipse fror pocket attachment. My beloved Mercator has a competitor now.

You must have some strong pull, I'm still waiting on mine. ;) (Though I think some of the orders are being filled here in the States and others overseas.)

Glad to hear you're enjoying it.

Mine just showed up...

What a cool little knife. A tad smaller than I envisioned for some reason but quite useful and came with a very serviceable edge.

Gonna have a lot of fun with this knife doing tasks around the house and property. Glad I finally made the leap.

Mine came in, as well. It's nice and shiny, and my kids get a kick out of all the Japanese writing on the blade, handle, and instruction sheet, as well as the mailing package, and short note from the seller.

Mine was not as sharp as I was expecting, but that can be easily remedied. It required little clean-up, otherwise, and seems to be a great bargain @ $20.

I don't recall seeing an instruction sheet but I did get an origami stork.

Yeah, it had a 2" x 3" blue paper sheet with Japanese writing all up and down one side. I really don't know exactly what it was, though.

I forgot about the Origami swan I got. That one disappeared quickly, probably in one of the boys' pockets.

I kept the knife. My wife kept the swan. Everyone's happy.
(Oh, and I got the sheet you are referring to as well. I went back and checked after your earlier post.)

It's funny I came across this thread, because I just received one of these in the mail like ten minutes ago.
It came with a screaming sharp edge.It appears to be a very good value for $20 shipped.
