My father sent me a Kabar (I traded him for a new one) Hunter that he has owned since the 1960's. He used the hell out of - didn't understand the hollow grind and so he took a file to it!

After much use as a pry-bar, hammer, and god knows what else - he sent it to me.

I cleaned it up, polished off some of the abuse, while keeping the history, and put a SWEET convex edge on it. It not wipes away hair and looks great.

Check her out:

I also cleaned the sheath - and it looks sweet. I may have a little leather work done to her by someone qualified.

I am really proud how this turned out.

That model is now Chinese-made, unfortunately, but still a great knife! Doesn't have nearly the lines and look of that one, though, for sure!

42. I picked up a modern one. it is EXACTLY the same. Well - before my dad modded it.

I really like the modern one - if I was stuck in the wild when the SHTF with a Ka-bar - I wouldn't hesitate.

I did and I didn't Jason. When I got it - I saw what he did - gave it a test on the polishing wheel - and saw that this would take out the abuse - but not all evidence of his modification.

I liked the advice that I got that I didn't want to simply remove all of the history from the blade. So I gave it a good polish - removed what looked just terrible - but left the serious history from the knife.

I was grateful just to have some words of advice. After the polishing wheel - I used the Dremel polishing wheel for the fine details and then just cleaned the heck out of it. Put a convex edge on it - and BAM it was there!

I mean compared to the way to oldie looks now. I like it better than the original. ;)

Wow, it does look better than new. I have one about the same age but it sure don’t look like that one, when I got it I just cleaned it up a bit, very little rust though the picture looks worse than the knife. They had amazing steel in those days, a good usable blade for sure.
