A Knife Based Survival Kit

It's too bad you couldn't have advised on Survivorman, poor Les couldn't catch anything with an improvised rig.

This thread just pulled me back into the wilderness forums. I haven't been into the woods for a while so my kits have been based around a folder and how to survive at work. LOL! But, because I haven't been in the bush doesn't mean I haven't been working my skills. I just finished practicing fire starting with a Sod Buster Jr. of all knives. Though I do have a fixed blade based survival kit that is always in the trunk of the car which is centered around a Gerber LMF II and a Ritter Pocket Survival Kit. I wish I could post some pics (ex-wife got the camera). Currently I am polishing the blade on my CS SRK and working on a kit for that knife as well. I like my blades polished to use for a signal mirror.
You have some great ideas, Mistwalker. Thanks for sharing! BTW I like that SOG.

Those fish will bite almost anything.

When they are spawning they will attack anything! I have cought over 30 in a few hours before.

I know a couple of Les's advisors, and they are darn good in the woods...that's just they way it goes some times. You can take a very extensive fishing set up to the water even and on some days they're just not biting.

Thanks, I'm glad you like the post. The SRK is a great knife to base a kit around. I'm still hoping to luck into one of the old CarbonV versions for a cheap price one day.

What a shame...you probably could...haha

I think that's a flooded market...just thought I'd make my own.

Crappie especially are like that. I used to catch thirty or forty at a time with a cane pole and minnows down on the Chattahochee river in South Ga. And I learned that Mullet like doe balls years ago as a little kid in Tampa Fl.

How securely does that Ka-Bar sheath hold the SOG Bowie? Any rattle?

Well...had to modify the retainer strap a bit to get that more snug but as for the kydex part that fits the SOG better than it ever fit the Ka-bar I had in it to start with. The blade on the SOG is a good bit thicker so it actually spreads the sheath a bit on the way in and there is no rattle ar all. I used an old iron to heat and flatten the little tensioner that was there for the Ka-bar.

I love this idea. Hopefully one of these days I'll get off my butt and make something like this for my RC-4 or my JK Kephart.

Lol, I had collected this stuff over a couple of years, I just happened to see it all in one place at the same time one day and said "hey...that's an idea" got out my cordless drill and stuff and went to work on it. Because it is a drop sheath I later decided to put the leg strap in the upper slots and move the velcro straps on the pouch so that it would go in the lower slots without hanging below the knife. It wears much more comfortably this way.
