Well its true, just got back from my first meeting of the Empire Knife Club in Brooklyn. Fellow member Rugger mentioned it last month, and this month we decided to go and check it out, and Im glad I did. It was a nice little warm up for the ECCKS thats coming up this weekend.
The Empire Knife Club is five years old and has about 50 active members, and from the ones that Rugger and I met some very nice people and some serious KnifeNuts. There were some makers, dealers and some very nice pieces. Although you could tell they didnt take the Wall St. Journals article too seriously.
The two high points of the evening; they had a Raffle and I won a quick draw leather belt sheath for a Buck 112 folder, (of course I dont own one, so it just goes on the list) made by Rich Lupo. The real high point came when I asked Jan the guy that invited us down, Who here is a BladeForums member, or who is on the Internet? He says, You should go talk to Frank, he does some File work and Custom Handles! I said, You dont mean Frank Recupero do ya? He goes, Yeah thats him! Now for you folks that dont know who Frank Recupero is, let me just say, if youve got a Production knife that you like and want to turn it into a one of a kind piece of art with Custom Scales and some beautiful File work, you have to check out Franks work. A great guy, beautiful work and very reasonably priced. Check him out. http://members.xoom.com/ats34/
It was kind of surprising how few people there were familiar with BladeForums. It wasnt because they werent on the Internet, they go to Ebay and BladeAuction to buy and sell, but they had no idea what they were missing here. They do now, we should pick up a couple of serious members, and I hope you all look into your local area Knife Clubs and check them out.
