A knife for a lady

Are you sure it was a Cilvilian?

Can you post a picture?

Hello RGray

Unfortunately, the Civili is no longer in my grubby hands. I sold it to a chap in England.

But rest assured it was a Civilian with G10 handles. The top of the pocket clip was a c-shape and there were holes drilled and tapped around both the lanard hole and the blade pivot.

I regret selling the Civi, but the list of need to have/lust after Spydercos keeps growing (god help me it keeps growing).

It was about the scarest knife I've ever had the pleasure of owning, never bite me but I was so very careful opening it (ALL THE TIME). The downside was whenever the knife was drawn, the sheeple would scatter and start muttering "crazy knife dude in the office".

Oh well, life goes on.

Take care

The civilian was made for people without the time or inclination to learn reliable self-protection. Using a "cut and run" technique the civilian can be very effective even in the hands of a scared woman.

Well I wouldn't rule out the civi either but there are a lot of knives between it and a damn ladybug. I think the most practical SD/Utility knife Spydie makes is the Endura, its big but light and has that lovely vg10. If the weight isn't a huge factor for her then also consider the persian, chinookII. Another sweet blade that may not be easy to find though is the Goddard ltwt, long sharp and again lovely vg10 light as an endura with a nice grey handle and different shape. Just because she is a woman doesn't mean she has to carry or even wants to carry a dainty little knife.
That said, if you think she will carry it and understands its purpose get her the damn civi, just remember to be nice to her afterwards.

What edgetrip said. I never understood this "small Knife" stuff for females. Lets see I'm 5"10 185 and can still bench 315 on a good day. My daughter is 5'4 ,110# and can bench 100#. She needs MORE of a weapon not LESS.

We got big guys carring Glocks, large folders, flashlights etc. and their smaller weaker women get a cricket. Now go take on the world honey!

IMO, a SD knife should not be used for anything else.

A civi only has one purpose and should not be dulled with utility work.

There's no reason a womrn can't carry two knives.

the civie comes out on top!
My plan was to trade my spyderench for one but I can't stand the thought of losing it so saving begins.

Thanks guys, you've all helped.
The civilian is going to be carried for what it's designed for, when I'm not around.

Hell she should carry it when you are around too, that way when you are distracting the bad guys with your threatening manlyness she can be the threat they aren't expecting. Also if they take you out she still has a back up.
Good choice but like I said be very nice to her from here on out.

I take your idea finally, man. Good point, indeed.

Now I just keep my Ladybug real sharp, set it aside in my pocket and carry the FRN PE Delica for all other cutting jobs. The Ladybug from now on is saved for SD situation only. The fist holding method for the Ladybug together with my training has been very efficient to me.

Remember, a woman's clothing is typically much less function-driven than a man's. Most women don't wear the kind of clothes that make carrying two four-inch knives practical.

Danielle has half a dozen knives she loves carrying, but the one she's never without is her Cricket. Why the Cricket? 'Cause she can carry it in her bra. ;)

What 2 four inch knives?

As I said; my wife carries her Civilian clipped inside her pocketbook and NEVER on her person.

It NEVER leaves her pocketbook.

One more vote for the Dodo. Its a mean little slasher and really easy to hang onto.

If the point of the civilian catches in clothing (tough material, zip, drawcord, seam, etc.) there's a lot of leverage to yank it out of her hand from the relatively long blade, and the handle is a bit smoother.

The Dodo really locks into your grip and I can't see an accidental disarm happening. It is also more utilitarian.

Although RGRAY maintains that a SD knife should be a dedicated blade, and I understand the logic of this - it is by no means bad advice, my opinion is that daily use makes it much easier to access your knife instinctively when under pressure. This can be as important (or moreso) than a slight degradation in sharpness, especially if she is not likely to train. The S30V is pretty good at holding an edge, too. THe only exception for me is if you're using a knife for really tough tasks in heavy or adbrasive materials or with a risk of hitting damaging objects (in which case you should probably be ausing a more deciated tool anyway). THe kind of utility cutting I tend to do is not really enough to dull the edge before I get a chance to touch it up, and even if there is a noticeable change the hooked point is still a nice ripper.

Just my 2c
