Hey fellas I thought I'd share a pic of one I've almost got finished. (It just needs the wood sealed and the blade sharpened. :) ) She wanted a knife to use when we go hiking/camping, & general use. I used a sharpie to draw the image on the blade then submerged it in a bath of white vinegar and lemon juice concentrate, to etch the image and names onto the blade. It started life as a Starrett Red Stripe Power Hacksaw Blade. Full Hard HSS!:D (.62 x 1.25 x 14") It really wasnt as hard as I thought it was going to be to shape. I'll definantly use it again:p Anyway she is 7 3/4" long with 3 1/2" recurve drop point blade. The Handle is mahogany stained red oak epoxied on since I had no carbide drill :grumpy: Let me know what ya think

Nice recurve! Good Idea on the etch too. Looks like a safe camp knife with an uber-sturdy tip. Thanks for sharing!

I like the shape of the knife
great job
so the sharpe kept the acid from eating the metal to make that image?

Hey, that's awesome! I really like the recurve. Way to go, your daughter is going to get a lot of happy cutting out of that. You made me smile first thing in the morning - thanks! :D

Thanx guys I'm glad ya'll like it. Jessi loves it and she cant wait to use it. that M2 HSS is a breeze to work, :eek:seriously all I used is a 8" bench grinder w/ a 36 grit aluminnum oxide wheel to shape and a 80 grit lowes special (gator grit) 4x36 belt to remove most of the mill scale. I still need to get me some carbide bits to make pin holes for though. anywho thannks again for the kind words

She's 12 going on 13 in November, She's definantly a Daddy's girl. She's me, in female form. got my Weird, Dark sense of humour and everything:D Hey Thanks Mr Bakes I appreciate that. I've got a few more I'm working on that should be posted soon. 2 fat boys in O1 and 2 more in M2 a recurve clip point, and another drop point recurve for my son, (his Mother in male form. he's 11 going on 12 in April. when we go hiking we usually walk to my parents house, (about 3 miles) right up the creek line we get deep woods and prairie along the way. so it gives me an oppurtunity teach them some bushcraft. when we aint out hunting small furrey woodland creatures... :D I feel blessed being able to do that :D so it's all good. My wife, their mother, isnt really into the great outdoors her idea of roughing it is a hotel with out room service, oh well can't win em all!
