I sold this guy a 581 that I had de-assisted, and he has been using it for about 8 months. He loves the edge retention, lock mechanism, and the smooth operation, but dislikes the bulky handle.

He's looking for something new and I'm not great at picking knives for other people. Things he is not looking for:
- Assisted opening
- Spyderholes ( I think he's kinda flexible on that )
- Serrations
- Knives that take up a lot of pocket space
- Paradoxically, small knives

Given all of that, a PM2 seems to be the obvious choice, but our neighbor has one and so he doesn't want one. I could use some help.

I really love my ZT 0550. I know it's not the most popular ZT knife, but it's extremely functional, strong, sharp and looks great.

ZT 801, BM 710/909/940. Spyderco Gayle Bradley/Southard. All carry very slim for their size and cutting power.

Wanna love that knife so much, but the nylon handles.... I... just don't like nylon handles... Although, I suppose some custom g10 scales would make it an amazing knife for me personally.

It's for your roommate, right? ;-)

BTW, what's his price range?

ZT 566 was a good option
ZT 770 as well. After the torsion bar is removed of course
BM 940 very minimal pocket space
Spyderco Sage series

I'll second the ZT 0801 suggestion. It rides in one's pocket like a much smaller knife and has a great blade to handle ratio.

Go for the 0566 and take the torsion bar out before you hand it to him. It's an awesome flipper once you master the push button technique
