A knife I wish I had not lost . . .What about YOU?

Westetern fixed blade I was using to do yard work. Sat it on the roof of my car. Heard it hit the trunk and saw it in rear view mirror as it bounced into the weeds on an expressway ramp.

I wish you still had your knife
IWhen I was a Boy Scout and about 14 years old (1963 or so) I had an Olsen knife I really liked.; a four inch carbon blade with a little fuller and faux stag in a nice leather sheath. Olsen knives were assembled near my hometown in Michigan, from blade blanks marked "Solingen Germany" at that time. Olsen has been closed down for many years now.

Our troop went on a long hike-in overnight camping trip . . .ten miles in on Friday night, two nightas out and walking it all home on Sunday afternoon. So opn the way back, cold, wet and tired, we stopped for a break. I used that knife to open and cut up "something" (ut was 55 years go). I stuck it between the rolled up sleeping bag and the backpack for a minute to keep it off the ground while deling with whatever it was. The call cme to ruck-up and go . . .and I did.

Wish I had not lost it. What about YOU?

A blue handled Spyderco UKPK, GIN-1. Nothing fancy, spring was a little weak but with the choil it wasn't really a problem. It was THE perfect knife, I thought. Kicked everything else out of the pocket for years. No idea what happened to it. Woke up on the couch one day after tying one on and it was gone! Hopefully someone got some use out of it.

As a young teen in ‘77 or so I lost a 4 inch Toothpick jack. My mom had gotten it for me at a garage sale. It was one of those stamped bolster type knives that Colonial used to make. The scales were missing but somehow the bolsters were intact. Anyway, I loved the knife and carried it everywhere. One summer afternoon I was running through a neighborhood back yard and I saw it fly out of my pocket and into a bush. I spent 20 minutes looking for it but never found it. Like it slipped into another dimension. I missed that knife for years after that.

The Puma White Hunter I went through VN with. I lent it to my VN buddy after we'd both got home, and I came here to live. He was taking a motorcycle trip alone to work some things out and I gave it to him to take along. Wish I'd showed him how to loop the thong through the hole in the handle for security because it slipped out on him. He felt terrible and tried to replace it temporarily with a Buck 119. It was ok, but I didn't care for it. Actually, I never liked the Puma, but it came up for sale over there and I bought it. Used to sharpen it and other knives for the guys on guard duty at night. He finally bit the bullet and bought me a new one. I wished he hadn't and if he did buy a Puma, I wish he'd have asked first, I'd have suggested the bowie. Years later I traded it for something else. I just miss the one I had. It's sheath is pretty lonesome.
