on december 27th, my mother's birthday, i ordered myself a little present as well from the dotd. a 16" d-1. today, sunday, december 31st, my brother in law knocks on my bedroom door. he said he was taking some trash out and found a large, heavy, triangular package with my name on it in the GARBAGE! i was outraged to say the least. how the hell did my beautiful d-1 end up under the stairs waiting for curbside pickup?! i have a number of ideas for suspects but i'll take care of that later.

first, praises to himalayan imports for gettin my knife delivered in three days (or less, who knows how long it was in the trash) during the holiday season.

second, this piece is remarkable. finish is brilliant. the octagonal handle feels outstanding. is that little flower dil's kami mark? it too is gorgeous. the surface is completely smooth, i can't find any 'misplacements.' there is a small scrape here and there, from testing i assume, and the laha is all over the guard but i can buff that off. still, i'm totally happy with the knife. dil rocks.

on to what you came for.

the amber hued pics were taken with a sony. the clear ones with a panasonix lumix. all pictures are poor. quite an educational shoot.

I may be misunderstanding what I see, but you may need to apply some metal polish. Mine come in the winter with discolored spots due to condensation when they move from the Winter cold, inside, and then out.

Lovely blade.

That's a real beauty; thankgawd it didn't get thrown away. It's a nice model.

Hm, Thomas, thanks for the polish tip. Got one just like that recently.

lucky your bro-in-law caught it in time before trash pickup

i love the thing, givin me second thoughts about the tarwar, though. don't want THAT to end up the same place. i just ordered some SAK's too.i'm worried.

Dang that thing is sweet as snot bro. Great snag there.

Back to the story. Who trashed it....

wow. spiffy knife. great fullers :)

trash? well. i think i'd demonstrate the knife's ability on some cherished item when they aren't looking :)

or leave the shredded box under their pillow :>

Hey Magnum22, if you're really worried I can just stop by HI and pick it up for you. No sense in you worrying about delivery to your place. I'll just keep it safe till you can come by and pick it up.:D

D1 is Primo. Mine's by Dil too. Fortunate, ain't we?:D
May the Trash suspects experience your justice!

EDIT: whooooops!!! got confused with the "R" series LMAO!!! thanks for clearing that one up magnum...
i guess im buzzing early from new years lol *hiccup*

im sure someone will chime in for clarification of the infamous "D" models :D

I believe that what looks like water may actually be the oil that HI puts on their blades when shipping them. It seems like in the picture where it shows the mirror that its not visible, where as I would expect a mild localized tarnish to be visible from most angles.

I've had a few blades come that were pretty much dripping with the stuff that looked a lot like that. The smell is very distinct.

gave it the initial test for chops and lateral strength, scored well. for kicks i did some side by side work with my bgrs. oddly, the bgrs feels more nimble and better balanced, probably more tang in the grip than the d-1 which is more blade heavy. the bgrs villager is also sharper and digs deeper, no surprises there. The handling threw me for a loop though.

investigation of the identity of the trasher formally begins tomorrow on account of usps being on holiday today and yesterday.

USPS is closed Tuesday too. It's closed for observance of President Ford's passing. SO the wait continues.:grumpy:
