A knife that locks closed?

Hi, I've been visiting the forum for a while now and I finally decided to join because I'm hoping someone can help answer a question I have. When I was a child my grandfather had a small penknife that he would ask me to open. I could never open it hard as tried, then he would hold it in a particular way and easily open it. At the time I could never figure it out. I now assume that there was some type of lock that locked it in the closed position, But if my memory is correct it was concealed, because there didn't seem to be any button or anything. I'm thinking maybe there was a weight inside the knife or something that when held in the right position unlocked the knife. Anyway, I would really like to find a knife like his and I haven't had any luck searching online. Does anyone know of a knife like this? or something similar? Thanks

I've got one, its an Imperial Shrade knife. Not sure the model, but I've heard it called a Magic Knife.
To open it you hold the knife blade tip up and push the blade in, to close hold it tip down and push in.
The tang of the blade has a hook on it that catches a SS pin that moves up and down in a small channel, depending on how the knife is held.

I got a "Roy Rogers" trick knife that works exactly like you are describing some years ago from Smoky Mountain Knife Works. Looks like they are still available online from other retailers. There's a ball bearing? in the bolster area of the handle and a cut-out in the tang of the blade. Squeeze the blade into the handle while holding the knife bolster down and the blade will open. Hold it handle down or flat and the ball bearing stays in the notch and keeps the blade from opening

I seem to remember reading about a currently available knife that the main blade will only open when the secondary blade is depressed or some such arrangement, I am sure someone with more knowledge will chime in.

Several of the Benchmade assisted knives's lock works when both open and closed. There is a secondary lock on the knife (apart from the axis mechanism) that can lock the knife closed. The 580 I used to have had that feature.

Thanks guys, that was fast! I had been searching online for hours and you answered my question in 5 minutes! The shrade and Roy roger knives that Thieveslikeus and Mahoney describe sound just like it. Thanks for the help.

More people like DB and the better times are on the way! As if 40 years of providing us with a popular mystery to solve wasn't enough!

lol you didn't actually read his post, did you? :p
I think he did. In case you are unfamiliar with its particulars, the Kershaw Leek has a sliding lock in the base of the handle, which secures the blade in closed position.
