A knife that never leaves your side

Okay...probably the best pic i have of the #1...I have used it for 25 years nearly exclusively (Thompson Encore in same calibre been its reprieve)...Many adventures indeed :)...I shot my first 22 deer for 22 shots with that rifle....Here it is on Xmas day two years ago when i took it for a walk.....It wears a KAHLES 3-10 x 50....My backwoods damascus was with me that day.....Fes

"Beware the one gun man. He will know how to use it well!"

Old saying I read a long long time ago in a Field and Stream magazine. Love the ammo holder!:thumbup::thumb up:

There's something so elemental about a single shot rifle. Like the old Sharps and Remington rolling block. Shooting at it's best and simplest.

A knife that's always at my side?

Hmmm, I guess I could say that my Northwoods stockman could be the one. But…once in a while it gets left home of I'm going "downtown" or dressed up for a black tie event. So I guess not. The Northwoods stockman gets replaced on those occasions with my Sardinian resolza.

My damascus peanut was always with me, and it was so small that it got augmented on occasion with another knife. But for three years it was always with me if I had pants on. But the new Grand High Muckba of The Cult has it.

I had a Buck 301 stockman for 25 years, and it was carried a heck of a lot. But now and then it got left behind for an alox SAK. Either my Wenger SI or pioneer. So that rules out that one. The Wenger was, and maybe still is, my go-to knife if I don't know what I'll be encountering. Sometimes it gets teamed up with the Northwoods stockman.

So I guess I may be too much a blade floozy to have one single knife that is always at my side. To go where ever I go.

But wait a moment, maybe there is one. There is one knife that I never leave the house without. In fact, I can't, it's attached to my keys, so I can't start my car without it. It's a little red thing, but I've seen them in other colors. My better half has them in red, black, purple, and screaming yellow. It's been on my keys now for about 20 years, and it's done a heck of a lot of cutting, snipping, screwing, and picking.

Here it is next to Karens screaming yellow zonker. YOu can see the blade's a bit worn down, but it still cuts well.

Here it is, hanging out with some other small stuff. I like small to miniature things that still work at their intended task.

So yeah, I do have a knife after all that is always with me. Embarrassing as it may be, it's not a nice stockman, or a beautiful amber bone damascus peanut, or beautiful Sardinian Resolza. But a humble little Victorinox classic. A tiny almost talisman of a pocket knife, and soooo easy to forget about. But it's always there with me when I leave the house. Only very recently has it got some competition, in the form of a Leatherman micra that pinnah has subverted me with. It's giving the old standby Vic a heck of a run for being the new most carried tool.

This little 12OT is the opposite of the knife that never leaves my side. I bought it and enjoyed it for about five minutes before the lady of the house caught sight of it and decided that it would be a good knife for her to take to work with her. It has become a permanent fixture in her pocket, and she's carried it every day for the last eight months. I can't tell you how many different tasks I've seen her tackle with this little peanut. Now I only get to touch it when it's due for a sharpening. She handed it to me this morning for a touch up and I thought I'd sneak a quick picture for this thread.

I think of this little knife whenever somebody talks about not liking carbon blades because of the maintenance. I get the knife about once a month and I wipe all the gunk off the blades, drop some oil on the joints, and rub it against a stone for about 15 seconds. That is the extent of the maintenance that this knife receives. It's been in her pocket through the heat of summer, rainstorms, snowstorms, trips to the ocean, etc. and never shown any sign of rust.

I started this thread but havnt contributed much of anything until now great knives everyone keep em coming. This was my first and only traditional knife and the only knife I own, so it's safe to say that if I leave it behind I go knifes for the day. I am looking to expand my collection but would like to start of small. Maybe what I really need is to get a another good knife that inspires me to be more of a collector. Money and my own doubts are what hold me back really. But anyway this is my queen mountain man. An anniversary gift from my lovely lady for our first year together. This picture was take at the Titan peach farm in South Carolina.

Great looking knife there, Boiler. My 23 that I posted in the beginning of this thread is GEC's version of a two bladed Mountain Man. It's a great pattern, and I can easily see how you don't feel a pressing need to grab others when you have that by your side on a daily basis.

The little Ohta (peanut sized in length) on the bottom is almost always with me. It's been some years now. It's such a pretty little thing and disappears in the pocket. Of course 90% of the time I have at least one other knife with me.

my yeller cv medium stockman, carried since my dad gifted it to me 2008 or so, carried everyday. also pictured was my first rifle (marlin 780 .22 walnut stock) i got when i was 14 its celebrating its 30th year this year, so yeah when i find a favorite it tends to stay around awhile, the stockman is well on its way.

Thanks, Gary! That Seahorse Whittler of yours has my trigger finger twitching every time I see it on a dealer website. Excellent sheath too!

As it should ;) now those GEC #38 to me look very similar to this pattern, if it were only in stainless, I'd snap one up! but until then, my stable will house this Seahorses folder.

Great rifle. That was also my first rifle. I must have been 12 at the time, or close to that. Mine was give. To me by my grandfather. I now have many of his knives and he is a BIG reason I'm into knives now.

I rotate too many of my knives to have a one true companion. I Have a select few that are true favorites (about 7 or 8), but far more than just one. Maybe after a few decades the cream will rise and one will stand out over the rest. Until then, I'll just have to keep buying knives and rotating them. Shucks.

AND... the Calibre is??? Please ........... 30.06 (???) just difficult to get a reference on it from other items in the photo .....

I also have to say it's the yellow Case trapper with CV blade. Although I carry more than one knife daily, the yellow case is always one of them. It's just a good reliable knife.
