Awhile back, Doug Add had a 3,000 post giveaway, and I won one of the prizes, a knife re-handle from Glennbad. The knife arrived yesterday, and I would like to express my appreciation to them for this giveaway. I sent Glenn an older, Boy Scout Camillus #72 whittler that I got through that big Internet auction house, which had been described as nearly new in the box but with a blurry photo. When I got it, I found that the handles were made of a black composite that had curled away from the bolsters. I don't know what Camillus used back then for handle material, (I've heard it called "shrinky-dink" and was used from 1947 to 1969) but an otherwise nice knife wasn't really usable so it went into my collection as a curiosity.

When I won Doug's giveaway I contacted Glenn to see if this knife would be suitable for re-handling, and he told me to send it to him. Well, here is a photo of the end result, I wish I had an original photo to show you a comparison though the handles looked something like this one (from scoutknives.net):

To say that I am thrilled is an understatement:

Glenn was terrific to work with, even though he was very busy, he kept me informed of the progress of my knife. The bone is my favorite shade of green, and Glenn even cut the Federal shield in for me.

The pile side looks terrific as well:

Words cannot fully express my appreciation to Glenn and Doug for this giveaway. I have always liked the Camillus 72 pattern whittler but have only had the Delrin handled ones until now. This knife will always be special to me, and unlike the original owner, I will use it! It's in my pocket right now, and has been since it arrived yesterday.

Guys, thank you again for what you have done for me, I am much obliged.

Sincerely,
Griff

Very nice! What a great job and you now have an old classic in tip-top condition and ready to use and enjoy.

That's a beauty! The 72 pattern is one of my favorites, and Glenn did a stellar job!

Great job Glen, Doug, and Griff! That is a beauty. Enjoy that knife.!

That's a superb looking folder. I really enjoy seeing the restoration, and modification of traditional pocketknives, it's not very common to find someone who's into fixing old knives. Glenn's work is top notch from what I've seen on this forum.

Glenn is getting a reputation!! Nice work as usual!!

Congratulations Griff!

Your renewed knife looks great!

I have always been amazed at how the fellows (like Glenn) who know what they are doing can get a scale to look so wonderful, and especially how they cut a pocket for the shield so perfectly.

It is great to know that knife will be your companion for years to come.

Where is Doug? I have not seen him around these parts in some time. Pete and I were wondering not to long ago. Doug???

They're mighty nice little whittlers- I've done a decent amount of carving with mine. It's a bit older than that one (First Class shield instead of Tenderfoot, so before about 1970) but incredibly pocketable.

nicely done. Very good looking result.

Congrats!

Great stuff guys, and fantastic work, as always from Glenn

Very cool! Everything I've seen of Glenn's work has been "dead nuts" as they say here in the shop.

I'm definitely impressed with that work. That particular pattern by Camillus is one of my favorites.
