A knife with magic powers

In ancient times, about eleven hundred years ago, knives handled with a mystery material were said to have the power to protect it's owner from poison by his enemies and even cure hemorrhoids, though it is not clear what you had to do with the knife to cure the hemorroids. There is some discussion as to what this mysterious material was. I friend of mine, a quite proper professor at the University of Nottingham, did some research and published a paper on it. I was able to help him a little in his research so he was kind enough to list me as second author, it was a lot of fun. The materials were thought to be musk ox horn or fossil walrus ivory and maybe a couple of others. I noticed in another thread of pictures from a museum in Turkey that some of the knives and swords had some of this amazing material on them. If you want to read more about it, (the paper) look here http://www.markknappcustomknives.com/archives_of_natural_history_35_2_306.htm You never know when you might be inflicted so I made this knife. Thanks for looking at it.

thats a really interesting unconventional use of Mammoth

I rather like it

Yes Stephan, the materials are very similar to mammoth ivory and teeth, but they are actually fossil walrus ivory (the orange part) and musk ox horn. Many people mistake them. Thanks for the kind remarks. Mark

Very interesting. It seems people of the old world were very superstitious much more than today I would imagine a knife endowed with the powers you spoke of would have been a perfect talisman for those that were lucky or wealthy enough to have one

I've always been a big fan of ram's horn, but that musk-ox of yours is awe-inspiring. Best horn handle to date, for me. Fabulous work.

Beautiful knife--the musk ox handle is really vibrant and the walrus ivory just sets it off.

Really have enjoyed the posting of your knives over the last couple months.
Always clean and of interesting materials.

The sheath inlay is a nice touch.

Mark, I'm with Kevin very interesting knives! I like your style! Anxious to see your next creation!
