A knife you hate to hate?

Now I have several US made options. But I tend to be harder on my daily use knives. I use them a lot. Cutting, scrapping, prying. I work pulling flat bed deliveries for a big home improvement store. So I personally like to carry cheaper knives at work. Less heartbreaking if something happens.

I LOVE my Kershaw Monitor. The “axis” lock, D2 seems to work well for me. But dear mother of god. They were high when they designed the pocket clip.

Maybe it’s just me. I carry front right pocket. And the way they did this clip I the pocket seam always gets stuck on top of the knife. Have to fight it to get it out. Makes it a knife I really hate to hate.

What’s a knife you own that has a “fatal” design flaw in your eyes?

WE Vision R.. Was excited, albeit sceptical, when I finally ordered one, thinking I could get over the spine mounted pocket clip. I know many are fine with it, but I just couldn't deal once I got it in hand. Sold it shortly thereafter. Satisfied now that Civivi made their version of the Vision R with a normal clip.

On the same note. I love Hinderer, but their flipper tab doesn't agree with my index finger with the knife open. Still holding out picking up a non-flipper version.. Will get one up eventually.

I can honestly say I don’t think I’ve ever seen one like that. And I can’t see a reason why? It doesn’t look like it will ride the pocket well.

Yeah. It’s not only that Kershaw clip. Every clip I’ve ever used wears the top seam of my pocket out trying to get it free. So I don’t use clips for carry anymore. I just drop pocket them. But clips usually work well as a palm swell for me, or at least increase my purchase on the knife. Thin flat scales without a bulge anywhere don’t work well in my large hands.

I have a KA-BAR Dozier Folding Hunter I took the scales and clip off entirely. A friend put new fat ebony scales on it. No need for a clip anymore.image.jpg

I almost pressed the buy button on one of those but that clip turned me off too. WE makes some serious stuff and it's become a brand I respect....but that goofy clip.

Looks Awesome, I might have to buy one and play with that...... Thanks!

XM-18.

The jimping where your finger lands after flipping is unnecessary and painful. Makes the flipper version of the knife a no go for me.

Spyderco Gayle Bradley 2 folder. It's a great knife: good steel, thin hollow grind perfect for slicing, strong detent, smooth action. Plenty of features to like. I was able to look past the liner lock (usually a dealbreaker for me) but could not get comfortable with the liners standing proud of the handle scales. They just dug into my hands when I had to bear down to cut through thick material. I debated whether to grind the liners down flush with the scales but worried I would go through the effort, still not like the knife, then be unable to sell it off due to the modifications.

I finally just sold it on the exchange and bought something else with the proceeds. Every now and then I get the urge to buy a new one, but so far I have been able to resist.

My PM2 Crucarta. Very nice example and incredibly smooth. But the angle and tip placement is just enough different from what I've carried for years that I've let more of the red stuff out with it than any other knife I've owned. Probably any other 3 knives I've owned. I love and hate it very much. Ultimately I will probably give it away one of these days to the daughter of a brother from another mother who loves the pm2 but doesn't have the disposable income for a real one.

I don’t mind pocket clips. I actually like them. Or I have a belt sheath for my bucks or trapper style. I don’t like things loose in my pockets.

So yea overtime they wear the jeans. But I don’t usually have jeans that long 🤣.

Just the way this knife clip is up and over. That’s my issue

Why not put aftermarket scales you like on it?

Post it when you do. I’m sure it’ll be great. Mine is fat in the hand for reduced fatigue in prolonged use.
I would do the same..... I focus more on handle comfort than I do on blade shapes.
I need full, comfortable handles. First.

Spyderco Gayle Bradley 2 folder….strong detent…
What the? I’ve tried the GB2 on three separate occasions and the detent was crazy weak every time. Interesting..

Thread relevance: Antonini Big Bear XL. I love everything about the knife except where the handle swells. It makes the grip awkward and almost painful if I’m doing more intense cutting.

Delica.
The first choil is just too small for two fingers, and the 2nd choil is much bigger than it needs to be.

I bought a Native, which feels perfect in hand, but I lose so much blade to the 50/50 choil.

I bought a Mainx 2, and it was just a bit too big.

I bought a Leaf Jumper and it's about right, but the handle is bigger than it needs to be, unless I'm wearing gloves.

I'm on my 3rd Delica LW; I'll probably keep it because it's close to perfect.
I'm on my 2nd Native LW; ditto
I'm about to be on my 2nd Manix LW and will probably keep it. It's long and wide, but thin, lightweight, and easy to carry clipped to a back pocket
Leaf Jumper stays.

Centofante 3 is on the way; it seems to be just a bit different than a Delica in the same form factor.

Cold Steel Mini Recon 1 is on the way; I can't believe how good the mid-level Cold Steels are for the money.

I'm a sucker for a locking folder with 3 to 3-1/4" blade, but also very picky about how they fit the hand.
