A knife you hate to hate?

I hate that little Boker autos are surprisingly reliable. I've spent 8 times as much on worse, from better name companies.
I know. And an "s" fell off mine and all the sprinkles disappeared!

Why not put aftermarket scales you like on it?

This was 5-6 years ago, so my recollection is fuzzy. I believe I looked into replacement scales but at the time did not find any that I liked and/or solved the problem.

What the? I’ve tried the GB2 on three separate occasions and the detent was crazy weak every time.

I remember mine being good, but again, it was a while ago.

I too choose the XM-18 but for different reason than above. I wanted to love it because it was just so freaking heavy duty. I felt it would take what I gave it. I actually used one to dig a brick out of the frozen ground. The problems were three fold, It carried like that brick and it just didnt cut well for my uses. I also hated the ergos…I wanted so badly to like it.

Hate is too strong a word.. but I've never been able to completely warm up to the Spyderco Manix 2, in spite of seemingly universal love for it. Too much of a pocket hog & too little sharpened edge vs. overall size for my preferences. It's a good knife that I've tried hard to really like, but if I'm being honest, I have to admit that it just doesn't "do it" for me like it seems to for a lot of people..

WE Vision R.. Was excited, albeit sceptical, when I finally ordered one, thinking I could get over the spine mounted pocket clip. I know many are fine with it, but I just couldn't deal once I got it in hand. Sold it shortly thereafter. Satisfied now that Civivi made their version of the Vision R with a normal clip.

On the same note. I love Hinderer, but their flipper tab doesn't agree with my index finger with the knife open. Still holding out picking up a non-flipper version.. Will get one up eventually.
This is why I didn't like the Maserin AM-4. I liked the idea of the pop up clip, but not spine mounted.

There is so much I want to like about my A Purvis Progeny V2. However, the pocket clip ruins if for me. IMO it is WAY too shallow, so much of the knife sticks out of my pocket its ridiculous. I only carry it if my shirt is long enough to cover it. So its been relegated to an "around the house" knife.

Maybe it’s just me. I carry front right pocket. And the way they did this clip I the pocket seam always gets stuck on top of the knife. Have to fight it to get it out. Makes it a knife I really hate to hate.
I have the Covalent, with the same clip, and this is so freaking annoying. Especially when I'm wearing thin athletic shorts (almost every day here in Florida). The gap between the butt of the handle and the clip is the worst, and the angle of the butt just makes it worse and traps material.

As for knives I wish I didn't hate, I'd have to say nearly every Spyderco. I really hate the super high thumb ramp on all the models like the PM2 and Delica, and I'm not the biggest fan of the compression lock or backlocks in general. However I can't deny that they're extremely well designed and well made knives that just aren't for me. The only ones I own are the Salt series knives, because the utility they provide far outpaces the negatives, and no other brand offers such utility. That being said, they are dedicated boat knives, or tied to my life jacket, and aren't EDC knives.

Dawson hunter. It's far far too thin behind the edge, I get it, it's a hunting knife and probably very good at being one but the thinness behind the edge makes me think two things
1 - it will become brittle after a few sharpening when enough metal is shaved off
2 - it may chip if hitting a bone or if used in some other utilitarian multipurposeful way

First off I don’t own this knife because my hate prevents me from buying it but I really hate to hate the SOC J-Cape. I think it’s a beautiful design and absolutely love the blade shape. The handle looks to be very ergonomic but I just can’t allow myself to support that company because of the business model.

I really don’t like or appreciate companies that just design knives and then find someone to manufacture it for them. Personally I feel like it’s kind of like cheating. They lack any of the skills required to make anything and don’t have to put in the time learning to manufacture their own products. Also the country of origin they get to do the manufacturing bothers me and then they have the nerve to charge as much as some of our great local makers like Hinderer, Les George, Chris Reeves etc.

So while my principal’s won’t allow me to purchase it, i sure do love the look of it.

Anything made under the Smith&Wesson label. I have three mis-packaged(wrong knife to package description). Free gifts with orders. The local Army surplus has practically the entire line.

What a bunch of junk. Shame to the S&W name.
I remember when they came out with their magic assist? The cool scales got me. The fast magic assist. The first knife I owned with a freaking safety!?!). Got me with the gimick. Dear god that was a boat anchor of a knife.

For me it is the PM2. Owned it numerous times, as I just had to be wrong about not liking the end-all-be-all edc knife. Delicate tip, over-done forward choil, but most of all the lanyard hole induced fat butt (that is part of the liner) = pocket blocker. And I still can't decide if I like the compression lock (love it in a Smock though).

I hate to hate this one. I like the design and it's well made with good fit and finish. The steel seems good, yet it was made by Quartermaster Knives in Texas, which really means it was made by WE Knives in China.

I don't know the model name but below are them. The flip function hurt your finger is was so rough. I wore a leather glove to work the action. Had to use freaking motor oil to lube it. The frame lock out the package is past 50%. Blade and lock up wobble The package itself is for an updated model(?). It list pivot bearings. Rubberized scales. Definitely not the knife in the package. I believe it was SMKW giving these out as a bonus gift. I don't remember. I have three. Two are still in the package.

Complete junk. ( I have a friend that doesn't know any better. I'll probably gift him one. He'll tear it up anyway, cutting something like floor tile)

There's this one Benchmade I really wanted to love, man. It had all the specs on paper but just didn't feel right in the hand. It's like meeting your celebrity crush and finding out they chew with their mouth open. Makes me feel some kinda way, 'cause you expect to love it but just can't.

The Spyderco Native 5. My first Spyderco was a Native in Gin 1, wtf ever that is. I still have it. I have bought a couple of Natives in the past few yeare but the blade:handle/choil ratio bugs me so i dont keep them.

That’s Benchmade. There’s a thread talking about them. While I love the company fully. I like their knives. But their prices give me that same feeling. Why pay $150-300. When there’s even Chinese knives for $60-80 that are just as good. (Now granted you usually have to resharpen, oil, work.) but is that little work really worth paying twice as much?

But if you can snake them used for a fair price? Then they are great! Lol

Felix at SOC does in fact hand make fixed and folding knives as well as designing them. He is a very accomplished knife maker
