A Lesson from a Guy who Should Know Better

Do you guys take any antibiotics for these deep stabs or gashes? I had to have a fish hook removed once and they highly recommended them to prevent infection.
Are you kidding? Around here, we keep our knives so sharp...that the germs don't even realize we've been cut! :D
(I'll be here all week...Don't forget to tip your waitress.)

This has never happened to me, but with some knives I'd prefer to have the gash and keep the tip intact.
It would have to be a really nice knife though (BG-42 Military for example).

Bah, bad memories, back in college, we had these beeded thingies hanging in our doorways, and some of them were stuck toghether, so i got my trusty leatherman out and was trying to cut them separate, I thought it wouldn't go through but it did, anyway almost choped off the tip of my finger, felt the blade scraping around my bone. It didn't hurt that much it was realy, really, really....really anoying, unpleasant and uncomfortable, plus becvause it was right on the tip (alsocut my nail half way) it was hard to dress properly, but some untiseptic, bandage and medical tape fixed all that.

When I came over to the med center just to check weather I dressed it right or i buggered up, the nurse didn't know, and the doc was busy, now i got kinda "wavy" midle finger.

I learned my lesson well, after you cut yourself badly make sure to wipe the knife clean or it may rust.

That is absolutely 100% the main reason I don't own a gun.

I know exactly how clumsy I am.

there is a big difference between clumsy and stupid. Clumsy can be bad for the guns if you drop them and scuff them, but you have to be stupid to hurt yourself or others.

That depends on the gun and the amount of impact.

Back to topic, I did the same sort of thing about twenty years ago, and the scar is still visible between my ring and little finger. I aquired an entirely new reflex that day. Now if I drop something potentially sharp, everything retracts like a turtle. A broken tip I can deal with, emergency room visits are expensive (or so I hear).

Yeah, I never grab for a falling knife, Never got tore up, just never do it. I sometimes do a foot save, assuming I have leather shoes on.
