A lightweight jogger’s folder…

A knife is not the best thing for self defense, but it's better than nothing. I would recommend either a Buck 110 Slim Select or a Cold Steel Voyager. They should meet your requirements. Good luck with your search.

If you want to have something for self defense purposes when jogging a small can of capsicum spray is probably better than any knife.
If you want a knife for any other purpose, any slim light knife such as a BM Bugout -1.85oz (or Mini 1.5oz) will do.

Buy a cold steel. There are many models that meet your requirements. Find a model you'll love the shape of and get it. Worth every penny.

I see that most suggestions are ignoring the weight aspect of the OP's request. 2.5oz is pretty light and I cannot think of many knives that fall in that weight class. I hope more people can give lightweight suggestions.

You are a fit male who is literally on the run. Any mugger would consider you a difficult mark. Unless there is a gang of criminals lying in wait (then find somewhere else to run), I think you're fine. Use your head and trust your Spidey sense. Having a heavy knife pull down you running shorts is no fun. Time to invest in a fanny pack, maybe.

I am in the OP's situation as well, although I am not restricted to a folder, and my location is pretty low-crime relatively speaking. I'm still trying to figure out a good small knife to have with me when I run. I'm unlikely to be attacked, but if I am attacked, I'm probably going to be a lot more tired than my attacker is, and having something would be better than having nothing.

This is challenging for a couple reasons - being restricted to a folder makes the rust issue more apparent because even with stainless materials, you have more crevices and small steel parts, including springs, that are more likely to rust. And also weight. For distance running, ounces totally make a huge difference in feel. Ideally I'd have a tiny sheath knife with the sheath, hardware, and knife weighing under 2 oz.

The Spyderco salt series are in the right weight class ,the Tasman Salt is the hawk bill blade model and the Salt 2 is the standard style blade are both Delica size. They are essentially rust proof and light but just over $100 however I do see them here on the exchange for your price range. Also Daniel Fairly made a titanium backpacker model at one time for those that can carry a fixed blade , knife and sheath are around 3.5oz I believe.

Buck 110 slim select is very close to those requirements.
Definitely 2nd or 7th this choice (with the additional agreement), given the budget constraints. I was pleasantly surprised by how much I liked this knife and how much it punched above its price point.

If you're thinking more of self-defence and less of needing a tool, you should get yourself some pepper spray. The hesitation and more likely chance of going into shock when using a lethal weapons can get you killed, due to Judeo-Christian upbringing (also Barney the Dinosaur), compared to non-lethal deterrence which don't come with the same mental blocks. Getting the space to effectively deploy a folder can also be problematic, let alone the legal issues.

Thanks for the replies. I’ll take a look at the buck 110. Fixed would be great but laws in my state require a fixed to be in a sheath at the waist with handle visible; not gonna run like that. Yes, a small folder (or any knife) is less than ideal for protection, completely agree, but if needed it can turn the tables just enough. Thanks again.
I'd go with those who voted pepper spray in that case. There are quite a few size/carry options available.

The folks suggesting Spyderco of your preference are correct I believe. I Delica often and Endura quite a bit too. Great, legendary, reliable knives.

However, pepper spray is a bad suggestion. It is, in fact, not a knife. If you are looking for a knife, and get pepper spray, you will be disappointed, because it is not a knife, it is pepper spray,

Bad guys generally know pepper spray won't kill them and nothing gets your blood up like getting sprayed.

You can use your handy new knife for all kinds of things tho! 😁

I jog with a neck knife hanging around my neck and below my shirt. I would not want to depend on a folder for self defense. In my case, the fear is of wild animals, not criminals. Even so, my neck knives would work well in warding off an attack not involving a gun toting attacker.

If a fighting folder , SD capacity is the primary concern and price is hard limit , some extra weight might be the necessary sacrifice .

It just gives you a bit more exercise ! :p

Cold Steel makes many that would work , but not too many at OP's price point or weight .

These are all ~4" blades with reliable Tri-ad lock .
