I am seriously considering buying my first Emerson. The environment I work in really has no blade limit and I don't work around a lot of sheeple. I am thinking of a CQC8 or a Roadhouse.
So do any of you carry these to work?
If so are they useful in your daily tasks?
Which is generally less bothersome to pocket?
If you do have to open them in public, Which is generally less offensive?( I am just looking at all the possibilities.

Thanks for any and all advice given. I will wait till Monday and order after hearing some ideas.

I don't own a RH, but I do have a couple of CQC8 models. They are slim, light, and work just fine for me. I also have a Super 8 and it's a huge folder and I love it.

I have a super roadhouse and well, its a bit ridiculous but I'm sure a regular one will be great. Not too useful for daily tasks but that might just be the size of the super. Stabs really well(Found out badly)

I have never owned a Roadhouse so I can't comment on that model but I used to carry a CQC8 to work daily.

I found the 8 to be quite useful in daily tasks, especially if I needed a bigger blade. I always carry two knives on me, a SAK of some kind and 99% of the time the other knife is a Emerson.

I never found the 8 to be " bothersome " in the pocket but that is something you will have to decide for yourself, they do make smaller versions of both knives though if that is a concern for you.

As far as opening them in public i don't think your really going to find a Emerson with the exception of the A100 perhaps that is not offensive looking especially if you wave it open. I think most Emerson knives in general have a aggressive " look " to them, it's really going to come down to the type of people you work with as to whether they find it offensive or not.

Yep, got that right. If its not offensive, its not an Emerson. After all, they come "with bad intent!"

If it helps, I work as a University professor in NY and carry a CQC-8 every day...

no worries

I carry a CQC-8 daily also. I tried the roadhouse, but found myself really liking the 8. It is just about perfect. The horseman is a nice knife, you might look into it. All the ergos of the 8 in a smaller package.

ummmm Esav... the CQC7 A is a V grind.
True...I got my cqc-7a last month and love it. Oddly, I prefer the ergos of the Super Commander over the regular Commander knife and yet my 7 fits nicely in my hand. Go figure.

I've never had an 8 or a Roadhouse although I've had my eye on an 8 for some time. I have to put a hold on my Emerson purchases for awhile though. Perhaps an 8 by the end of the year --- I know a lot of folks like tantos but I just don't care for the tanto blades. So, go with the 8! :)

The mini cqc-8 (Horseman), mini Roadhouse, and micro Commander would be my choices for daily carry Emersons. Those are the models I find get the most of my pocket time for daily cutting tasks. They are pretty much all you would ever need unless you just want to carry a huge model. Besides Emerson "mini" models aren't what I would call small knives. The micro Commander is smaller but is still built to the same heavy duty Emerson standards.

CQC7, CQC15 and RH if you need the tip strength. CQC8 or CQC10 for versatility. CQC13, CQC16 if you work in the forestry department.

Yessir I do love the looks of the CQC13, No forestry dept. for me, but I do work in the woods a lot. I am intrigued by the CQC 8 because of it's history. I don't mind Tanto points at all, But the 8 just looks so smooth to my eye.

Thanks everyone. I bought an 8 in all her glory. Black blade plain edge. I used the hell out of her this weekend at camp on a lake. So far I couldn't ask for a better knife! Thanks again for the input and advice!
