A little advice please.

I just got my first Emerson, a CQC-15. The thing is huge and built like a tank, but I love it and don't mind the weight at all.

When you open it in public just do what I do with all my knives open it quickly and quietly. Which typically means you don't flick it open, use the wave feature, assisted opening, whatever you have and open it by hand and depending on the locking mechanism open it. A lockback for example I put the knife's lock into the open position than release it so it locks in place quietly when the blade is in place instead of letting it do it itself, double check it's locked. Cut what's needed than put it away. What you have to do specifically with the emerson I can't tell you I am not familar with that particular knife off hand, but I have found some way to quietly open all the knives I own whether lockback, liner, or frame lock. I have found it's the distinctive "click" of a knife that scares people, just seeing someone cutting up a box with a knife is usually registered to them as a tool where as the "click" of one opening is a seen as a threat even if you were opening it to cut open a box. And as an added bonus you draw less attention to yourself so less people notice you.

Congrats on the purchase. I was definitely considering a CQC-8 myself but I already have a CQC-15 on the way and they appear too similar for me to go with at this time. Maybe when I have more disposable income, a CQC-8 will come home with me.

Believe me. when you can, Buy one! I have thoroughly enjoyed every minute I have carried this knife!

I have both a Roadhouse and two CQC-8's one full size and the other a mini Horseman.

In total I have owned about 20 Emersons in my knife collecting experience. And out of all the 300 or so folders I have owned in the past the Roadhouse is easily one of my top favorite folders and no doubt my absolute favorite Emerson of all time, and I don't even like tantos very much!

How is it that a tanto knife like the Roadhouse makes it into my top 3 list of favorite knives when I'm not even a fan of tantos!? That right there proves that Ernest is a master knife designer. Get the RH, I promise you will not be disappointed.

cqc8 is hard to beat. It is a users knife. The work issue is an interesting dynamic. I plan on carrying a smaller one on the key chain. My edc will be IWB until I need it.

If you aren't around Sheeple pick the design you like best and order it knowing you'll love it. I work around cops all day and even they sometimes raise their eyebrows at the super roadhouse. If go for a commander or 15 in regular size the are useful and the right size for just about everything.

I see I'm late for your decision. Ill leave it posted up in case it helps somebody later on. Enjoy that 8!

By the way, nobody ever talks about the 10 but I keep browsing back to it and checking it out.
