Hi everybody.

Well,I finally got a decent axe & after reading some of the posts about axe usage here & seeing some of your hiking pictures I decided to get my butt out back & try this axe thing out for myself.
Just a little patch of woods in urban Cincinnati, but big enough to spend a few enjoyable hours in.

Anyway, here's how I hauled everything today:

I cut up some dry hardwood with the Opinel, split it with the axe & a real nice Breeden Pathfinder:

Lit up some PJ cotton balls & got a nice little fire going to heat up some lunch:

Then just sat there awhile & enjoyed the fire:

I'm not too confident with the axe yet,but I'm gainin' on it.
I still have all of my limbs,so I guess it wasn't a bad start!

It was a nice time in the woods for me. It's just nice to get out & play around sometimes.

Thanks to you all for sharing your hiking pictures & techniques with us.
I've learned alot from them.

Great pics! I'm not a big axe fan, but the fire looks good and what's in the packet? Coffee? Nice Breeden.

Thanks...that's instant "soup" mix in the packet.

I'm not a big axe fan either...yet. There's just not alot of need for one in this part of the country.
But I did enjoy using it & I can see it as a very useful tool in an area where there's more wide open spaces.

And yeah...it's hard to go wrong with any of the Breeden blades.

But maybe next time I'll take this beauty with me too:

Cool pics and having a fire to just sit by and relax by is to cool for words.
Take care,

Bryan

great pics Cliff... that is a nice axe... looks like an enjoyable afternoon...

How do you like the Opinel saw? I am thinking about getting one when I pick up a new Opinel knife. How does it perform on anything thicker than an inch?

looks like a great time. did you happen to get the wetterlings at cecil and clark? i was just down there today and i saw some of their wetterlings.

Glad you got to liking it Cliff, I've loved using mine for a couple years now, theres just something about the profile of the GB's that I dont like.

G'day Cliff

Thanks for sharing your pics.

Not much you couldn't do with that set of tools

Kind regards
Mick

I've used that saw on branches around 4" with no problems at all.
I like it because it's nice & compact & cuts fast & smooth.

Yep...I got that Wetterlings from Kendall at Cecil Clark.

I get over to Monmouth St. every now & then & always seem to come back home with something.

Good stuff Cliff! I dont own an axe, but have a modified one ordered with Brian Andrews. Hopefully S&N gets him some soon. I am very excited to get some dirt time in.

Great post. I enjoyed the pictures especially the field made tripod to hang your pot over the fire.
