When we talked with Kami this morning he told me that my Gurkha brother, Til Bai, had to undergo kidney surgery, something I've been through myself. This means a delay in production of Gangaolas, Hanumans, the Ang Khola Bowie, and other such specialties. Til inspects these on a step by step basis so they will lay in limbo until he is back on his feet and able to work -- maybe a month or so.

Not good news but there is no malignancy involved and that is good news.

I am glad your brother is okay an there is no complications!!
He will be added to our list to pray for along with his family and that they don't face anymore hardships because of his time off work.
Also for a speedy recovery!!
The kuhkuri's aren't as important as a mans health. I hope he doesn't push it to much in getting back to work.

Hope your brother will be well uncle. These things always affect the family. I'll say a prayer for him.

Many thanks, Yvsa and Jay. Til is a tough old bird and hard to kill. When I had my kidney surgery I was walking the next day. He is tougher than me by far and will be up and around in no time and will probably outlive all of us.

I'll be wishing for a speedy recover for your brother, Uncle. I am sure everything will be all right.

Just out of curiousity though does he have to travel to a larger city in Nepal or is Shop 1 in a larger city. I don't know where it is.

thanks and take care

He went to India for the operation so they tell me. Better facilities than Nepal and easier travel. Shop 1 is in the Terai down close to the Indian border -- jungle, snakes, mosquitos, all sorts of goodies. And, this time of year 100 degrees with 99% humidity. Not my favorite place in Nepal.

Too bad Palmer didn't have an outreach clinic set up in nepal at the time. When they are there later in the year you should have the kamis go and get adjusted. They would be happier and their work will improve as a result, I'm sure! If i could send a chiropractic adjustment to your brother, Bill, I would!

Hope he fares well...

The Terai region of Nepal was called the "malaria belt" in the old days - not the healthiest of places!

All the old timers who lived there for any length of time came down with malaria. Kami Sherpa got it and it still bugs him from time to time even today. The Terai is simply too hot, humid and full of bugs for me.

Right now the kamis are really suffering down there, more than most because they are working around the open forge.

Doesn't sound like my kind of place Uncle Bill. I can't stand hot weather or bugs. I feel sorry for the Kami's having to work in it but it just goes to show how tough they are I guess. I wish your brother all the luck Uncle.

thanks and take care

Thanks for concern, collin. I will learn more next weekend but I am confident that old Gurkha is not going to lay down and die very easily.
