This is a pic of me from 1974 (age 14) fishing in front of what would become my original knife shop. (The red building on the right) My brother Dan and I along with my dad built the 2 buldings (1969 - 1972) and planted all of the trees you see except for the giant oak in the background. We got the trees from the woods on the back of the property. We would dig around them with shovels and then wrap some cloth around the base of the tree and pull them out with a chain attached to 'Ol Betsy - the large International Farmall M tractor that you see sitting on the left. The tiny maple tree that you see between the two shops would grow to be HUGE before it had to be taken down a few years ago. We have been drying the wood from that tree for nearly 3 years and are now making it into handles to be offered in the near future.

Ahhh sweet memories!!!!

Looks like fun, Boss! Is that a fly rod you are using in the pic???

Very cool stuff, that maple should make for some great knives…. :)

Will it be left unstabilized?? That would be perfect…. ;)

No kidding. Sweet memories indeed. I look at myself now and look at pics of me back then and think, WTF HAPPENED!!!!

love the bit of history bro

Awesome history! Can't wait to see what blades are worthy of receiving Busse grown maple scales.

Fun stuff. Not much you couldn't move or do with one of those old Farmall Internationals--kinda like the Busse of tractors in its day.

Jerry- I bet you had a folder on your person.

That's a great bit of history. I'm la big fan of maple handles, so I'm looking forward to seeing what knives you have planned for them.

Great pic and info. Just think the formula to infi was bouncing around in there even then. I hope the fishing was good

ahh the good old days of youth.

However that mower is not going to cut the grass all by itself... Can't fish all day.. :)

I believe that was my first step up from the legendary Zebco 202. It was a closed face reel made by Shakespeare and it has a revolutionary ceramic string pick-up pin.

Killer cool!!!

1974... I just started kindergarten... Day 1 Hour 2 Sister Marie introduced me to the cain (a modified feather duster handle as I recall - that biatch probably spent hours preparing it) for talking !! I have remained consistently in trouble since :) :)

Great stuff Jerry, the world seemed a much different place, that is almost palatable in old pics like these !!

Great Memories! I was probably a whole 1.5yrs old when that picture was taken.

Any fiddleback/striping showing in the maple you've been saving?
