I have to admit, the little butter bean has an apeal to me. Slim design with one backspring. Disappears in a pocket till needed. Has a lot going for it.
There were canoe's around when I was young, but I don't recall baby butterbeans around. When did the little canoe become a butter bean?
That Butterbean is a cute 'lil fella. I love the long-pull and swedge combo on that diminutive blade. I won a Butterbean on the forum here a while ago, it is a great knife (not to be underestimated) and good looking to boot!
Since the Gunboat was mentioned, does anyone know why the Case Gunboat is always so expensive? Are they all limited editions? Special orders? I love the Canoe pattern, but the Stockman is my overall favorite. I'd really like to get a Canoe, I just can't justify the cost of it.
Thanks Guys! I've developed a real fondness for the canoe pattern. It's just a recent thing for me.
I think that Baby Butterbean is just a Case name thing. I know RR calls them a Mini-Canoe. Case just must feel a need to be different I guess. You should really think about getting one Jackknife. They are like little jewels. This one is my dress knife. Carrying it gets me to being about as close to being a Gentleman as I'll ever get.
The Butterbean pictured came in a tin marked Case Brothers. With each brother's name on printed on the sides of the tin. The scales are called antique amber bone willgoy. And I'm a sucker for swedges and long pulls. Even the little pen blade wears a swedge and a long pull.
I don't know why Case has such a high price on their Gunboats either Orca. Unless they are a limited run with few pieces. But if you like big slippies you should save your pennies and get one. It's a real handful. I think RR maybe has a version that you could check out also.
