A Little Communication Goes a Long Way

I have had several issues in the last few months that I have just brushed off. But I want to share them here in hopes that maybe things will get better for everyone...As the title suggests, a little communication goes a long way. I have been searching for a few new (to me) knives. I don't have the cash to pay for a knife so trades are the only option. I don't have an arsenal of knives to trade and what I had wasnt the most sought after. I understood this and was prepared for tons of "no thanks" and "I'll pass" replies. What I wasnt expecting was the lack of responses by well established sellers. I would post interest on the thread and leave an email address. I would get a response immediately. But as soon as I replied with my offer, I would only get a no thanks half the time. And of that 50% that never replied, most were well known sellers with tons of feedback that sell dozens of knives a month. Now I get when you are selling at that volume, there is a lot of communication going on...but is it really that hard to send a reply saying you're not interested? Maybe I'm just old fashioned to expect courtesy and consideration in a business transaction, even if the transaction doesnt happen...

I agree with the title of your thread and I can somewhat relate to your frustration. I've responded to Wanted To Buy threads with the exact knife that the members were looking for. New in Box and at a price that I thought was reasonable. Price included Paypal fees and shipping. No response. This has happened to me 3 times. Not a big deal really because in all cases the knives were not listed for sale anywhere and I didn't really care if they accepted my offer or not. But a response would have been nice since I went to the trouble of taking detailed photos and provided detailed descriptions.

In your case it's possible that one of two things may have happened:

1. The member sold or traded the knife to someone else and just assumed that you would "get the hint" when you saw that they edited their thread accordingly.
2. The member may have taken your offer as an insult depending on the knives you offered for trade.

Whatever the case may be, I agree that a response, whether positive or negative, is always best.

To the op your going to get that a lot here you have to understand that trading here for the most part isn't straight across the board. Most not all want to come out ahead they want to up trade not even trade or down trade. As you said your knives aren't the most sought after so most probably saw that and just deleted your message. We have a lot of great sellers and traders here that have great communication. We also have a lot of seller and traders here that treat this like a business and won't give you the time of day if they aren't comming out way ahead. TBH if you really want something try your hardest to save up and buy it that way you still have your stuff and none got over on ya. If someone dosent have the time to respond to you just take it as a lesson learned that it's someone probably not worth sending the message to in the first place.

I agree. The worst experience was a seller emailed back with a no thanks, we emailed back and forth a bit. He found out what my grail folder was, a Domino, and told me to hold onto the knife because he would take it as a partial trade plus cash for a Domino...but he had to locate one first. I was stoked. It took a week or two and he had one enroute. He told me he wanted my knife (spydie assist, like new) plus 60 cash. I felt like i was getting the deal of the century and told seller i felt that way...a few days later he said he had it. I confirmed all he wanted was the knife+60 and he replied he felt it was a fair price especially since someone else offered 150 for it...i agreed and again was very grateful....i was abt to mail the knife and send pymt but felt i should wait for his reply but then all of a sudden the communication stopped...i waited a day or so then sent another email....then a few days later....then a week or two saying best of luck......no clue as to why it never happened and never heard anything back...but I still see several items a week posted for sale and trade...

Yeah OP, unfortunately common courtesy isn't always common around here. Don't let it get to you. There's a lot of great members here, that make this a great place to buy, sell, trade, or just hang out! So, set your standards, make friends, and forget about those who are inconsiderate. Unless someone is really throwing out a lowball, or even insulting offer, I don't understand why people wouldn't at least give a friendly "no thanks".

I've gotten this as well, I've learned to live with it now. It is a bit frustrating though, after speaking with someone for a while regarding a deal and then to just be ignored. It is what it is.
